    hehe,
    Damit.

I thought you would go crazy and scream that
    Nikon was better.

    Disappointed now.

Well, as nobody fall for my little autofocus provocation I doubt we have a good Canon vs Nikon argument today... :( I can of course take the nikon is better than canon position, but the problem is I dunno anything about nikon.

Yea, and just to keep it ontopic - 400D is a good camera, but I'd rather recommend 30D if the budget allows.

In my opinnion it means "if you want to spend less than 2000 euro on your equipment, don't buy 30D". Let me explain: the advantages of 30D for a beginner are quite minor (the biggest of them all are a good viewfinder and proper grip), but the difference in cost is great. Spending more then half of your resources on the body in this context does not make sense. It is much better to invest in few reasonable lenses, a proper tripod, filters, a flash, and a good bag for it all.

gaijin, what kind of comments do you need?

Dont get the kit lens with the 400D

    Get the 17-85mm IS instead.

    Muuuuch better.

You could get the Canon 50mm f1.8 Prime lens. Its cheap(around €100), fast and remarkably sharp, especially in low light. Good portrait lens too.

You could also get a Pentax K100D :D
Bloody good value they are. Getting one with the kit lens for 530€ in London in a few weeks.

nikon D80 makes the 400D feel like a toy!
oh and the D80 comes with a proper lens, not an 18-55 jam jar ;)

punchdrunk, for that money 400D comes with better lens too.

the only valid point is that d80 body feels more serious.

actually that what i must say to gaijin: you are choosing a system, not just a camera. so look at all options before making your choice. you will replace this body with a different one in a while, but unlikely to replace the system with a different one for a long time.
