I saw the guy the other day with a big old camera. As he was taking pictures I didn't hear any autofocus confirmation beep. So I'm still wondering how he manages to get stuff into focus without autofocus beep?

aww, you crazy kids nowadays with your 'autofocus' and 'digital sensors'. What's the world coming too !

Assuming you're actually being serious, if its a large format camera he probably focuses and composes on some sort of ground glass screen before putting in the film. If its an SLR of some sort then chances are there's a split screen on the viewfinder which provides your focus point for you, or he could just be playing it by ear.

But seriously - how he could get stuff into focus without autofocus?

i saw a guy the other day installing what must be a new form of digital CCD into his camera - it was flexible, and came in a little metal canister.

Does it mean you actually have to look into viewfinder?

Borg with all your ravin about Ansel Adams I was pretty sure you new he was a master of view cameras and would have know that these cameras have no autofocus and how they work...that link Fahitas explains the ways to focus these cameras, so I don't know how you find it insightfull....maybe not enough maths in there for you....

Also you can turn the beep off on a digital camera too, I just use the little green spot in the viewfinder, the beep is annoying.

He has a remote cable stuck up his ar$e, a blue tooth sensor in his contact lenses. When focus is reached the contacts send a signal to the remote cable through a wallet type receiver in his back pocket. On focus, then, he receives a mild electric shock, thereby knowing that it is safe to take the photograph. Obvious, I would have thought, but there you go.
