What did everyone think? Did it live up to the hype?

Have to say I enjoyed it, it has potential. Written by the same guys who did Shameless so it could be something special.

It certainly kept my interest going. Different to shameless, but quite good.

If anyone missed the first episode they're showing it again on E4 on Tuesday at 10 I think.

Did ya see the part where Tony was "singing". Pure fake!

The creator (and still mainman) behind Shameless, Paul Abbott, has nothing to do with Skins.

Thought it was OK. Certainly watchable. If it was any better it'd probably have been on C4 rather than e4. Glad they chose not to be controversial in the first episode. I had feared they'd just be gimmicky.

Ah really? Not the best news, was sure I saw his name attached to this. Still as you said it's quite watchable at the least.

Are the characters under or over 18? Ie. finishing 2nd level or starting 3rd level?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

Finishing 2nd level from what I can make out.

Anyway, I watched it and didn't think it was bad. Will tune in and see how it goes.

It was just so-so, has potential to develop into a good show! Couldn't figure out why the teacher was crying..left the room to make tea, maybe I missed a bit?

It was good, I'll stick with it.

I think some of Abbotts co-writers from Shameless were involved in the writing. And Simon Amstell from Never mind...

Yeah :D It actually sounded a lot like Rufus Wainwright.

I thought it was alright. Nothing that I haven't seen before, but it definitely does have the potential to be a half-decent series.

There was quite a bit of 'just for the sake of it' swearing, nudity etc, which could turn out to make the series 'gimmiky' as one of the other posters said. I'm all for swearing and nudity :p but it just seemed like they were putting it into the show 'to be cool' and because this is 'what all teenagers do these days'...

The kid from 'About a Boy' is quite annoying in it though. He could do with a slap around the chops. That would sort him out :D

By the way... What is the name/artist of the track of the title/end credits music... I've heard the track before. Can't remember who it is though..

I thought it was decent. I wouldnt be worried if I missed it though. I wonder if the singing was fake. Didnt he sing like that in About a Boy too? I could be wrong I havent seen it in years.

    The C4 website says they're all 16-18 http://www.channel4.com/skins

I was impressed.....thought there was some great acting there from such a young cast....the girl with the eating disorder in particular.

Good, I'll watch the next one.

Watchable but not great, nothing that we haven't seen before, acting was so so, good in places by the kids, the main character is a bit annoying, probably watch it again to see where they take it

Enjoyed it, I'll probably stay with it.

All the characters are aged 16 - 19 according to wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skins_%28TV_series%29

I thought it was terrible, the opening sequence wasnt special, the acting was ****e and the only direction its heading is the glorification of pills, it should have been done with students not 6th years, I predict emo's will now start watching and get into pills and ubber cool electro music.

Since when could we embed videos from YouTube?

    Best video ever. Roots ftw.

Ahh emos... theyre just so damn emotional :D

I missed the 1st episode, looking forward to catching the repeat. By the looks of it it has potential... I'll give my definite opinion once I've seen the first few episodes - cant judge it by just the first episode!

    AA Gill has a good piece in the Culture section of the times that sums up Skins pretty well in my opinion, this is an extract from part of it ;

The cast of Skins includes (all together now): a gay one, a Muslim/ethnic-minority one, a comically anorexic one, a nerdy, unfanciable best friend and a perfect, two-dimensional smug, Fonz-ish leader who weaves in and out of capers and adventures with his pulchritudinous prom-queen girlfriend. The whole fantasy is such an embarrassing, brown-nosing suck up to tenagers, it's almost too blush-making to watch.

Skins is patently trying to do two things: first, toadyingly to integrate itself with teenagers by oleaginous flattery; and, second, to infuriate the sorts of viewers' organisations, pressure grops and single-issue maniacs that get airtime for their causes by being easier to infuriate than a rattlesnake with tinnitus.

I thought it was average, expected it to be better from all the hype. Plenty of gratuitous swearing and nudity does not a good programme make ;)

it was alright,it has potential. It could get better, then again it might just continue to be average at best and Id lose interest fast.
