Only thing is....... ive played wii sports and Zelda in my mates and on first impression i wasnt that impressed with it...

Wii sports was a bit boring and Zelda seems weird with the controller

Now dont get me wrong ive owned and loved every nintendo console and everey zelda game.. Should i splash the cash?

Are they amazing.. i need people to confirm my faith!

Did anyone not really like it then love it after a while?

Zelda grows on you, controls and all, It's now my favourite Zelda in the series and I would recommend you getting the Wii right now just for Zelda.
Sports does get a bit boring after a while but what did you expect?

If you want more than just one game now I would wait a while.
There are some more great games coming in a while so it might be better for you to get it then.Although there probably won't be any significant price drop by then.

    It's up to you man.:)

Zelda is a grower. Starts slow but ended up being far and away the best game I played last year.

Mix Wii sports with alcohol and a few friends and it will never get boring.

Lesson 1 of the console business: wait 6 months.
If there's not a single "OMG I HAVE TO GET THIS RIGHT NOW!!"-game on the console you're looking at, you're looking at the wrong console.

If you're not that enamoured with Zelda - then you may as well wait.

As has been said on other threads:
Worth it for Sports alone! I'd nearly go as far as to say it's worth it for bowling alone!

also there is the whole wifi end of things if u have wireless internet

that was a big selling point for me.

the ability to browse the net and download retro games.

I'll go along with that! Zelda has hardly had a look in yet, bowling is just too much fun (its like regular bowling except I'm good at it :))! But OP as most have said if you've tried it and wern't totally impressed you should wait a while and see if any games more to your liking are released before you splash the cash.

If you've liked Zelda games in the past, then you'll like this one. It does start a bit slow but it's a brilliant game.

There is a bit of a game drought at the moment, but if you didn't own a Gamecube before, there are some classics you can get, you'll just need a GC controller (cheap in Game I think, not official) and memory card.

ye i gave a game cube broke though :( still have the controllers.

you cant play gamecube games on it no?

i've loved every Zelda game am prob looking more forward to metroid though
i loved prime and super metroid on the snes is arguably the best game ever made!

feck it im gonna get it when i see it in the shops, is Zelda hard to get... none of the other games interest me at all..#

    Thanks!

this zelda does start really slow but its gets fooking class, one of my friends hates Zelda games and RPGs generally but i gave him TTP while i was off sking and came back to him having bought a copy. I've loved all the FPS games i've played (stayed clear of FarCry) and I think the wii is perfect for that but it seems to be very subjective. Some hate some love. The next big game really is Metroid Prime 3 ain't it?
As for wii sports, gotta say i keep comnig back to it, its great fun. Couple that with the News and Forecast channel and the jigsaws in the photo boards and you can never ever be bored.

I hated Zelda at the start. Well, not hated it but I was very dissappointed (especially after forking out 60euro...console games are waaay to pricy). Anyway, it does grow on you (as has been said) and now I'm addicted to it and can't stop playing it!

The fact that you didn't like Wii Sports is a bit strange to me, especially seeing as you said you played it with a mate. It's never boring when I'm playing it with some friends - multiplayer is the best. But I've got a couple of games now (Zelda and Red Steel) and I still play Wii Sports quite happily - the tennis is the best and I love Golf even though I hate the actual sport. Weird, huh?

Anyway, I definitely like it but I would be inclined to say to you that maybe your better suited to an XBox360/PS3 BUT you did say you'ved loved Nintendo so far. So if you're a Nintendo guy, the Wii is a must. The games can only get better and, for me, I see no major faults in the two games that I have despite what critics say.

Plus, you have all those Virtual Console games (can't wait to download Mario Kart 64!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,857 ✭✭✭Atlas_IRL

no interest in the the ps3 or xbox

basically i buy nintendo consoles to play nintendo games and have a pc to play the good pc games or any good xbox or ps3 games, whats the point in buying the others i hate the controllers on them as well, prefere keyboard but always loved the n64 and gamecube controllers, goldeneye and mario kart got pld 24/7 by me and my friends a few years back, so im pretty much looking forward to more of the same..

I didnt really know how to do special shots in wii sports so i was just doing very average straight at you shots and thats prob why i was like meh..

if they updated Goldeneye/Perfect Dark and made then multiplayer i think i would wet myself, hopefully something similiar happens.... I heard that the Rare head honchos left so maybe they'll do something

You are correct not to be convinced - there just isnt a worthwhile game out there to exploit the console. Zelda is OK for the afficionados, and Sports and Play give a good demo of what the controller might be capable of with a good game. I think they will probably come in time, but for the moment, apart from curiosity, it cannot be recommended. Very poor launch lineup. I bought a Wii last week but apart from setting it up, downloading Opera, and setting up a Mii I havnt used it since. I think a new Mario and Metroid are due in a few months so we will see.

But for the moment, far better fun to be had on the other consoles - and great value on a lot of last gen top games if you passed them up at the time.

all these people desperately clamouring to find one and this guy wants convincing...

    ...communist.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,253 ✭✭✭Sandwich

Not sure what communism has to do with it ???

But you raise a valid variation of the OP's question- why are people clamouring to get a console that only has one good game available for it?

Most are applauding Nintendo for their innovation(me included),but without worthwhile gameplay its no less shallow a nextgen step than higher powered graphics.

I just think after Zelda is completed alot of people will be waiting for metroid/mario and their wii will be gathering dust in the corner or they'll start buying crappy car games etc just to tide them over

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,738 ✭✭✭djkeogh

Well I'm just about to reach the end of Zelda and once that is finished I'll put the finishing touches to Red Steel and then I'll get into Mario 64 which I missed the first time around. In between times I plan to pick up a GC controller and a copy of RE4. by the time all that is done there'll be another game out for me to buy. There will of course be plenty of nights in with Wii Sports as well. I've never been happier with a console purchase.

Well, you could download Mario 64 and Mario Kart and have fun with them till you wait for more games! It'll substitute for your broken gamecube also while you wait. And you could browse the internet from your sitting room! :) (you'll need wireless broadband though). Other than that, you could just enjoy sports and play for a while.

Can someone tell me if its backwards compatible with GC games??

It most definitely is 100% backward compatible with all PAL GC games. You need freeloader 1.16 to play imports.

Sad scene if playing games from the generation before last is the best we can get from a new console

There's a wait for good games with every console. X-box 360, Wii and PS3. The thing is you're not €750 down while you wait with the Wii!
The games will come and we'll all be glad! Stop whining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,738 ✭✭✭djkeogh

If anyone is not convinced by this stage I don't think they will be in fairness. The 360 had a horrible line up for the first few months of it's launch as well which people seem to forget now that there is a nice catalogue available for it. The games will come and we'll all be very happy when they do. At least for anyone into the classics or retro gaming there is plenty there to keep you occupied and more coming each week.

Yes it is, all you need is a gamecube controller and a gamecube memory card. There's a cover on top of the Wii covering where they're connected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Not really. Theres the news and weather channels, the virtual console, and some excellent games such as Zelda, Rayman, Wario Ware etc... as well as the GC compatability.

And just a reminder, descent means to go down. The word is decent.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 105 ✭✭omalleyTown

If anyone is not sure then they shouldnt pick one up now. With the shortages its just mean to buy one only to have it collect dust in your room when there are people out there who genuinely want one.

Besides in few months there will be news of new colours, dvd functionality and more games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,857 ✭✭✭Atlas_IRL
