I had a quick 'n' dirty shot of processing a couple of pictures using that extra 'glow' layer as mentioned by Fajitas in Mele's singer portrait thread... my efforts are by no means fabulous but it's miles better than any of my previous attempts at desaturating anything!

Any further tips about where I should be dodging and burning, or even if I should be starting with a brighter/darker/more/less contrasty image are much appreciated - as I said these were 2 minute attempts, to get a feel for the process, with no detailed work done.

Not sure if this shold be consigned to the DD, or if it's more C&C...?

There's definately a softer and more intimate feel to them, to mine eye. I must try it out later.

After further investigation - an extra bit of fun is to keep the 'desaturation' layer right at the top rather than desaturating the actual picture layers, and change the mode on that to lighten, overlay or soft light too - gives it a half desaturated look that I'm rather liking on some high ISO, bleak, rainy ruined church shots I have... oh, I love photoshop.

The second two look great. I like that "sheen" to them. I haven't had a chance to try out the work flow yet but it looks interesting. We'll convert you yet. Oh and the first one, I think that is beyond redemption, no matter what conversion techniques you try.

Not gone on no 1 either , but the other two are very effective indeed.
