    Next months challenge:

Your second best photo from 2006.

I joke - Right, hows about Self Portraits?

Something we can all give a go.

Remember now kids, no nudity unless it's female :p

    Congrats all.

I'll probably be slated but what the hell.

Am I the only one slightly underwhelmed by the entries in general, given the subject and some of the stuff posted on a thread of the same name.

    Just my 2c

Yeah I was fairly dissapointed with the standard of photos compared to what I have seen posted up here, maybe it's one of those subjective thingys ;)

As in I like it because it's mine type thing

ooohhhh self portraits..... excellent idea for all us who enjoy the aul Narcissism from time to time.

Meh...self portraits...I'll have to think about that.

regarding the level of photographs - I didn't enter the challenge for one main reason...I honestly thought that there were very much better photographs there than mine and well...maybe a lot of people didn't for the same reason. Could be why the thread had more photos of interest in it than the challenge.

    don't know.

anyway I went for Dublin Bay - it's a super photograph.

    Thanks Calina,

Covey, fair enough if your underwhelmed but I walked around
all of Howth head to get that photo wearing big boots, a full
computrecker bag and a laptop. I was knackered.

It rained on me for the rest of the evening after I took that photo
and then I was in for work early the next morning.

After an entire day, that was pretty much the only photo worth
    showing to anyone.

So thanks for your comment, a real pat on the back for a hard days
    work.

It was a general comment not one photo in particular and before the short list was announced.

However, carrying weights, getting wet etc, aren't things I'd take into consideration when judging a photo. :(

And tbh (no offence Shiney) it shouldn't - The photo should usually stand on it's own, unless provided as part of a photodocumentary, story, etc etc.

Might be an idea for a later competition...

    Yeah I suppose.

Normally there is no way anyone could know how much
work (or lack of work) goes into a photo.

The comment just got me angry .:(
    Sorry.

    No problem Shiny

BTW though I'm still of the same view.

Covey - some people felt that that was the best of what they had. Is it really your place to slate their efforts? I know that what I posted wasn't the technically best photo I took all year, but it was my favourite of them.

Calina - don't slate people unless you are willing to stand up and take a chance yourself. So what if there were 100 entries here; yours may have made a big difference. There shouldn't be anything to make people afraid to post here; just ignore the begrudgers.

Fajitas; self portraits?? My camera lens couldn't take that!!!

I didn't realise this was "positive comment only" territory. I don't recall slating anyone, it's my opinion full stop and shared by a few others as well. The title was the BEST of 2006 after all.

And yes, I would have participated but didn't see the early close notice.

Show me the line where Calina slates someone in this thread ?

Only 47 votes cast so far?
Hmmmm, maybe a link posted in AH would get more attention.....although it'll probably all be wise cracks and piss takes coming from there.

Is it just me or should this really be called "The best of 2006 in Dublin?"

And before anyone jumps on the bandwagon here, I know there is at least 3 shots not taken in Dublin!!!

I voted for "Loneliness is the Poverty of Self".. for the mood captured I suppose!
I liked "That Faithful Night in Phoenix Park", "Dublin City", "Dublin Bay" & "Gothic Quarter". Barcelona is very picturesque, some beautiful fairytale buildings etc!
