Seeing as the US are getting Mario Kart 64 this week (on the 29th), is there any chance we might get it tonight on the VC? http://wii.ign.com/articles/757/757738p1.html

Nintendo UK and Ireland seem to be useless in anouncing such news.

Selection of games on VC is pretty lame at the moment.

    Taken from Wiffy.ie:

    Bonanza Bros.
    Comix Zone
    Gain Ground

Not sure if there's any more or even if that is official tbh

I thought we were meant to get Mario Kart 64 before the end of January, which means it would have to go up tomorrow, but the US got A Link to the Past on Monday, so maybe we'll get that and get MK64 next week.

Unless they delay LTTP here, like how Donkey Kong Country hasn't been released outside of Europe yet.

On Wikipedia they have some of the future titles listed...

All to be released in Q1, so could be any of the following released tomorrow, or an unexpected title...

    Super Nintendo Entertainment System
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Nintendo Q1 2007
Super Mario World Nintendo Q1 2007
    Nintendo 64
    Mario Kart 64 Nintendo Q1 2007
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Nintendo Q1 2007
    Sega Mega Drive
    Bonanza Bros. Sega Q1 2007
    Comix Zone Sega Q1 2007
    Gain Ground Sega Q1 2007
    Bio-Hazard Battle Sega Q1 2007
Streets of Rage Sega Q1 2007
    Turbografx
Double Dungeons Hudson Soft Q1 2007
New Adventure Island Hudson Soft Q1 2007
Soldier Blade Hudson Soft Q1 2007

Your guess is as good as mine...

I had no intentions of buying those games first time around, what makes Nintendo think I'll change my mind now? Would they ever stop forcing rubbish titles on us and give us at least one "mainstream" game every week from the staple Mario/Zelda/Metroid series. I sincerely hope its not those 3 games. They introduced classic controllers for a reason. Let us have a decent 4 player game soon.

Oz is a PAL region, you can probably do the region change hack to buy it on the oz shopping channel.

<that is if ninty have not plugged the hole>

Nooo... but I can't afford another two classic controllers yet!

You can always mix and match if you have gamecube controllers to fit in port 3 and 4. I can't wait for mario kart (assuming it does come).

I'm completely OCD, that simply won't do :P

Ooh! Soldier Blade is ****ing awesome! Can't wait for that.

I haven't played Comix Zone in years... but I remember it was pretty good.

I remember playing this years ago and there was this one saying he had which was particularly memorable...any ideas? (I realise that's vague as hell)

    The games are available now!!!!

    Mario Kart64
    and Soldier Blade!

    I'm off!!!

    Just those two? No LttP?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Linku

They didn't emulate the Controller Pak so you can't save ghost data, that's a bit crap :(

I can't wait to have a few multiplayer rounds before we remember how amazing Double Dash!! and MK DS are and go back to them :)

Always thought Mario Kart 64 was a bit naff. There are some good tracks and the battle mode is excellent. However over half the tracks are awful garbage. Rainbow road, usually the highlight, was torture.

You won't listen to me but I implore people to get soldier blade instead. It really is brilliant and in 60Hz too.

    Better than R-Type?

Anyway, if they didn't emulate the controller pak, I wonder what n64 games *required* it and so which games we'll never see on the vc... And what about the expansion pak?

Different games really, R-type is a slower pattern learning game while Soldier Blade is an out and out blastfest. I prefer R-type myself due to the perfect level design but Soldier Blade would be a great alternative if you are after a more skill based game.

Controller pak was just used for games that required bigger save games. It's just a lazy nintendo thing not to include.

Expansion pak should be easy since it just adds an extra 4MB or Ram. As long as nintendos emulation is up to scratch the Wii should be able to handle the extra stress.

Mario Kart 64:eek: I'm having lots of that as soon as I get home (which means I'm going to have to buy another 2,000 points; I've only used 1,800 of my first so far though)!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

I had 1,000 points left... was waiting on this lil beauty to be available! :D

I found the multiplayer in Mario Kart 64 much better than in Double Dash, but Double Dash had the single best track for 1 on 1 races EVAR... Baby Circuit! (Was very glad to see it return in MKDS)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭smokingman

Well Mario Kart 64 and the News channel are available today...:D

Anyone try Mario Kart yet?I read on another forum that there may be some issues with the sound on the download.

I hope its not the case, but I`ll probably still buy it anyway.:)

I always loved Mario Kart 64 and in particular Wario Stadium. Although I did like it, Double Dash was too slow I felt and the 'turbo slide' didn't give you the same speed boost either. Plus the weapons were better placed/better selected in MK64. One of the best things about MK64 was that the more people played the faster it got. Great game, I spent many beer fuelled hours (or not!) playing it.

Yeah agree with all that Shred. Only when we were having our 4 player races/battles (Block Arena FTW! (I can't remember if thats the name of it though)) there were 5 of us in our flat, and it was loser drops out, so that everyone got to play! :D

    I'm Barry Scott!!!1!!!!

and Koopa Beach from MK64 is the best MK track of all time!

    FACT!

    FACT!

Now that is a great track (forgot about it), I love the music in it. It's still in 2nd behind Wario Stadium for me though;) Any of the dirt tracks are great for power sliding (that's what it's called, not turbo slide)! Dk jungle was another super fast track in 4 player mode.

Jaysus, I can't wait to get home this evening:D

Wario Stadium only loses it's top spot for me because of the shortcut that enabled me to get IIRC all three laps in 26 seconds...

My gamecube controller wont work on mario kart 64 :(

Is this the same for everyone?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,733 ✭✭✭Blub2k4

    It works on mine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,119 ✭✭✭✭event

can you play it with the Wii remote?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,733 ✭✭✭Blub2k4

Nope, classic or GC only, there're icons beside any game in the shop when you go into details, letting you know what controllers work with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭Gonzo_Reporter

Love Mario Kart took a while to download though got that failure notice a few times. I think the game looks better than ever! Cant wait to get 4 player battle going. Let the good times roll.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 377 ✭✭DoubleJoe7

Could the fact that it isn't the Official Nintendo Gamecube controller have anything to do with it? It's the GAME replica

Dowloaded it after playing with the news channel for the past 1.5 hours and just managed to get a game in before bleedin big brother started:mad: Anyway I thought it looked great and the missus was delighted to see it as we used to play it a lot together (the N64 is in the attic now). Can't wait to check it out properly later (I'll also try the GC controller, wasn't sure about the classic during my brief play test tbh).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Rhyme

I think i'll lay off Mario kart 64 for now, gave my Gamecube away for a lend (because i'm just so nice) and so only have one controller that can play it... ill stick with Street Fighter II for now.

Also, Contra (Probotector) or Gunstar Heroes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,521 ✭✭✭Shred

Got to have a few races lastnight and it was great but for some reason I couldn't use a combination of a classic controller & a GC controller together for two player. I had to use two GC controllers, anyone else have this problem? Is it not possible to use both together?

Both. But if you really must, Gunstar Heroes is the much better game.

It's possible alright. Had 3 player up and running last night. One GC wavebird and two classic controllers. No problems whatsoever. Also, times seem to remain in time trials, despite the warning that data cannot be saved. Is it just the ghost that cant be saved then?

Must pick up another Classic controller before i get Mario Kart and for some evenly matched Street Fighter II action... so many memories. They're €25/27 yeh?

Picked up Gunstar Heroes Retr0, awesome stuff... i completely forgot it was made by Treasure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 377 ✭✭DoubleJoe7

To those who have been successful in using the CG controller - is it an official one? Could the fact that mine is the Game version be the problem?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,738 ✭✭✭djkeogh

i've read on other threads that the Game version of the GC controller doesn't seem to work on the VC games. I was going to get one of this but I won't be getting it with that little draw back

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,733 ✭✭✭Blub2k4

I have the game controller and it's fine on most games, it works on Mario Kart but not on probotector, I dunno.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,807 ✭✭✭chump

i just ordered 1 classic controller from blah for 18.99 (3euro off using voucher if new cust.). Getting my 'pal' to buy another one this evening for same price. Google to find 2£ off voucher for new customers.

oh and there's a 5£ voucher for blah for new custs too but you must buy 3 items and trolley must >50euro, and also 40euro+ gets done for customers afaik, so i thought ordering two seperately works out safest

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 445 ✭✭Pedro Monscooch

Any word on what's going to be released tomorrow? I'm hoping for Super Mario World, Comix Zone, Zelda: Link To The Past. Zelda:Ocarina Of Time would be a nice little bonus but I'd imagine they'd be keeping that til the end of February to spread their N64 titles out as promised.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Rhyme

Bonanza Bros., Comix Zone and Gain Ground according to Wikipedia... methinks ill wait until next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,119 ✭✭✭✭event

ooh, was thinking of picking up the sega classics collection for the ps2, but might go just with comix zone tomorrow
