3 and 4 I really like. 1 and 2 I dont - mainly because of the poor lighting. looking again, 4 is excellent. nice composition.

First off...I think they need to be straightened...

They're grand portraits, but they need some more post processing for both the urban look and for a more 'band photo' look.

Personally, I'd be going with glowing B&W with plenty of careful burning, but that's just where I am at the moment I guess! :p

great work mele ,I think they're all great shots .
No. 4 would be my favourite for your description ,No. 3 looks a little like a model shot.

how so more post processed? i was thinking black and white for the first two, maybe some diffused glow, the lighting was aweful down dirty alleys. your a b&w junkie Al...you need help :p

Bah...Fenster is going to get onto me again for not putting up my B&W tutorials...

But, convert to B&W whatever way you normally would, (you use photoshop yeah?) then duplicate layer, title it dodge+burn, then duplicate the layer again and title it glow. Apply a lot of gaussian blur onto this layer, about 40-70 per cent, and change the blending method to 'overlay' (Fenster will say Soft Light, never mind him :p ). If it's way too contrasty bring it down using your opacity and fill.

Go back to you dodge and burn layer, select burn, put it at about 5% and on shadows, and burn in your shadows especially the bricks, go to dodge, select highlights, and about 5% too, and dodge out your highlights, particularly on yer man.

Do the same on the glow mask if you want to dodge and burn more.

See how that goes for you!

    Oh - And I'm a dodge/burn junkie, I don't care whether it's colour or not... :p

They look good, technically, but like everyone else said, they're in need of sprucing up

Apart from the technical stuff he looks too camera conscious and false in the first two. Too obviously posing I think. The third, less so and the fourth works very well for me.

They are also very neat and clean for an urban dirty look I think.

Yeah, makes me think he's modeling the jeans and jacket for Family Album or Oxendales :D

The other 2 pics are very good. Much more character.

I think 4 is great, just right for what you describe, but Id straighten the horizon. Like 3 as well, but 4 is my fav. Good work!

4 works mainly because this guy needs alot more space around him. 3 is a good shot but looks like it could just be a model shot.
