windows one care is available in ireland now,
just got an email with an introductory offer of 19.95 for a years cover for 3 machines.

ive been using it for about 4 months now and imo its a great integrated security solution

Why is a microsoft built security package going to be any safer then Windows itself?

And why spend money at all?

    AVG

    ZoneAlarm

As above, why waste money when as good (if not better) is availible for free?

Yeah, the AVG expiry notice is for the current version.
Before the expiry you can go to the site and download and install the newest free one.
AVG do this a lot (set expiry on versions) but hopefully they dont start charging for this version.

I agree with many of the comments above, why pay MS more money to protect an operating system they designed? Have the reason it needs protection is because it is so buggy to start with. This type of protection should be free and to be honest it is a bit of a disgrace that they are charging you for a security suite as well as their much vaunted secure OS.

AVG and Zone alarm all the way. I'd like to see what the corporate version of AVG offers in relation to something like trend micro.

Anyway, this is the bargain alerts forum, sadly I see no bargain here.

I personally recommend Avast! Home Edition AV and Comodo Personal Firewall for your free home PC protection needs.

Same, seems to be very picky about when to allow my internet connection to work. I use Anti-vir and Comodo Firewall (used to use Sygate before it was swallowed up by McAffee) and they work very well.

Maybe its been fixed in later versions, but I had memory leak issues on multiple machines, resulting in the machines grinding to a halt. Last time I used it was about a year back.

I've been very happy with my freeware security setup.:)

    - AVG Antivirus
    - Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall
    - Spybot Search & Destroy (for spyware)
    - Ad-aware (for spyware)

For those that don't know; it's recommended that you use more than one program to detect spyware - no one program is likely to catch 'em all. I hear that you should only use one firewall program though.

Yes, agree this combo works very well. Rock solid now for over a year after I dumped Norton.

Back to the topic - seems like a good price but I can't see how long the antivirus updates will be for?

    That'd be for a year! ;)

Personally, I do not like this software at all - reviews out there are very lukewarm too.

On my Vista machine, I'm keeping Windows Firewall for now (it has an advanced control section hidden away in Admin Tools).
So far I've tried AVG 7.5 free and am giving Avast Free and Antivir a go soon.
I've heard very good things about Antivir.

EDit: just saw Antivir is not for Vista.
