Just wondering if anybody could shed some light on what its like to work in the Civil Service. I'm currently in the private sector working in a technical job for the last 6 years but saw a job that might be interesting.

Similar salary and that but just wondering if anybody has any experience of switching, is it much different from the private sector, are the chances for promotion, overtime, etc good. Is there a lot of red tape in the public jobs?

Don't really know much about it and appreciate any info ye might have,
    Cheers,

If you have a lazt streak stay away - its too easy to cruise. If you are ambitious you can rise up the ranks quickly. I worked in the CS for two years and met some good people and some bad. There is probably more cruisers than go getters imho.

Definetly agree with Kmick. There is a lot of cruisers, who have a handy number and stick to it.

IMO i would way rather work in the public sector, but tbh i do have a bit of a lazy streak in me!
