A Techie problem with Tribeca, any ideas?

I've been playing on Tribeca lately, and I have a serious lag and freeze up problem. I never thought twice about this until today, but it's really starting to piss the bejaysus out of me. I always just assumed it was Tribeca, but I thought I might as well see if it's actually my computer that's the problem.

What happens is when I have a couple of tables open, it just seems to continually freeze up and won't letting me do anything at least once every 2 or 3 hands. It's so bad that I basically can't play more than 3 tables and TBH, even with 3 tables it's nearly impossible.

What'll often happen is: I won't get to see either my own cards or the community cards until the last second, so if you can imagine the software freezes at whatever stage it's at, all my tables carry on without me, while I still see the screen at the time it froze, then my tables have to wait for me and when my computer wakes up, I might have to make 2 or 3 decisions with all the tables flashing 10 second warnings at me!!!

    So my questions:

    Does anyone else experience this?
Is it just the Tribeca software?
Is it my computer? [I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop with ~512 MB Ram [might be 1gb, but I doubt it], if I increase this to, say, 2GB will it make a sizeable difference?]

I would always have PT and PAHUD running too, and I have a horrible feeling it'll end up being a problem with my PT and auto importing hands, but just incase anyone can throw some light on this for me, it'd be much appreciated.

Has anyone had similar problems in the past and fixed it?? Would upgrading my RAM make any difference??

Does anyone have a smooth playing experience like with Stars, etc. while multi-tabling Tribeca??

Try it without PT running and tell us what happens.

yeah, happens me a good bit. If you open the task manager (alt+ctr+del) and go to process' right click the client and set priority to high it alleviates the problem most of the time.

This has been happening to me lately i usually have two tables going and no PT or any other software running. Though it saved me some money when I lagged out with QQ last night.

Also, make sure the 'enable logging..' box isnt selected. that slows things alot.

When you go to task manager set all other applications (pokertracker/media player/PAHUD/whatever) to very low priority. I used to get the same problems when PT was importing hands while on playing on Tribeca, this fixed it.

keep pahud to normal, otherwise your stats can be all over the place, and come and go.

I had the same problem, turned out to be Norton Internet Security that was causing the problem, it monitors all internet traffic

thank you guys, I've had major trouble since Christmas with getting timed out. I'll try the above suggestions. I think I had too much stuff running at the same time.

Yeah changing the priority helped, and it wasn't too bad without PT running. So I'd say I've got it about as good as possible.

You could try compressing/vacuuming your database too.

is it possible to split up your database, eg hands from levels that you don't play anymore

How do I do that? Is that just the PT compacting thing in the utilities?

I found PPP really bad last night from about 9.30pm on. It became unplayable. I had no connection problems with anything else

Yes, thats all. Its called vacuuming if you are using postgres db, and compressing if you use the default access db.
I've heard that using postgres databases makes it quicker. You could look into that. I don't know if I noticed a change when I started using it though. People usually start using postgres when their DBs get too big - access only allows 2GB.

Upgrading memory to 1gb or 1.5gb should definetely help (Right click My Computer on the desktop to see what ram you have now.) I upgraded my laptop a while back and the difference is very noticable. Is your computer slow starting up and stalling alot when youve alot of applications running, if so defo upgrade, if its only on tribeca and your laptops running well then you might not need the upgrade but it can never hurt.

What are you running windows Xp. Also what Ghz is the PC 1.6ghz maybe (Right click My Computer on the desktop to see what Mhz your pc is)

Restarting the PC before you start playing and close the likes of Limewire etc that might be slowing down your connection might help slightly.

Mine always ran fine, that was until a few days ago. I thought it was my connection and was going to cancel it and go for a different provider, looks like it could be a recent issue??
