You're allowed to choke with your opponents belt AFAIK, but then again readin the rules to BJJ is like reading "make your own thermonuclear weapon".-Confusing, and you only realise you've screwed up when something goes horribly wrong.

I think you're allowed choke with your belt, but you're not allowed take it off to do so. I could be wrong though.

in sub wrestling competitions, where most people go in topless but some wear gis, you are specifically told that anything you wear can and will be used against you, so there is no rule where that says you cant. although i imagine taking off the belt to do the choke would be disallowed, you would be allowed to do something like the ninja choke: http://www.mmalibrary.com/tech_display.asp?id=195
(but with the belt instead of the lapel)

Sweet! I'll brought belts onto the mat quite a few times with the sole intention of trying to choke somebody out with it, it's all good! :)

Why limit yourself to using belts, try this "Advanced Guard Pass":

You cannot use the belt to choke someone in general.

The guy was obviously just a wanker - he looks straight at his coach and is told that you can't do it, but then does it anyway.
