If you are buying a new gun spend more than that on your semi, or you may be asking for trouble with jams etc.

I have no experience with any semi's under E1000 but i would buy the baikel in that range they're very reliable and robust. If it was me i'd buy a good second hand o/u in the price range you will get a better gun for the money and higher quaility.

As for what to buy in a semi imo the bennelli super 90 is one of the best have been using one for the last year or two and they are brilliant whatever finish is on them it refuses to come off when we were out shooting ducks my dad was using it and left it in its case on the floor of the boat on the way back it started raining and with waves and everything a bit of water got into the bottom of the boat the gun got completely soaked and was full of water but when i got it home there was no rust or any damage whatsoever. Just stipped it completely dryed out and reoiled all the mechanisms and off it goes again. Has never misfired and is a dream to shoot.

The beretta's are good to especially if you dont like recoil as they are gas opperated.

completely agree with psittacosis. I'd keep saving and saving until I could afford one for around 1000 euro

My brother had a benelli super black eagle and he is sorry he ever traded it in. The gun fitted him like a glove and he was a very good shot with it.

I have a beretta xtremea 2 and i never intend on changing it. When I miss with that gun I know its because of my shooting not because of the gun. It has never let me down. Recoil is low, always cycles. Very easy to load/unload.

So i'd recommend a benelli or a beretta semi auto.

Sorry I don't have experience with the price range you mention. My dad has a baikal S/S and has it for the last 20 years and it still works perfectly, I know its not even related but it may be a sign of the reliability of the brand.

seen a secondhand(1year old) beretta AL391(black synthetic) for 800euro. hardly any rounds put through it.

hezz700 might be along soon to tell you about the fabarm he had. think he was happy enough with it and it didnt break the bank...

My Baikal MP-153 cost me 600 Euro new, built like a tank :D Have used it shooting rabbits, clays and other vermin. Will happily shoot 28gm to 64gm without having to make any adjustments, comes with 4 chokes, a good manual IMO & wrench. It's a working gun, so I don't have to be worried about getting a scratch on it if that happens, as I didn't need to take out a mortgage to buy it ;)

The Baikal sounds good to me:D
Exactly what I want a no frills worker. John you say shes "built like a tank" too heavy to carry on a days roughshooting?

I think it's around 7.5 - 8 lbs in weight (I did a quick Google on it, no weighing scales in this house...). I've mostly used it for lamping, out say for 4-5 hours at most with it. Carrying it and rabbits back to the car I am glad I have one of those loop slings for it, but I've had it nearly a year now and honestly I don't mind the weight, you get used to it and it'll help soak up any recoil, not that a semi has much anyway. 17REM has a Beretta, not sure of the model off the top of my head but there isn't a lot of difference in weight when you hold them both.

I have replaced the magazine spring on it, but that was damaged (20/20 hindsight) due to careless storage on my part. Initially I suspected a combination of dodgy spring and plenty of fun with 3.5inch 64gm carts but I know better now :) Apart from that she's always operated flawlessly for me.

Ian jameson in mount nugent (cvan) has a selection of good second hand autos mainly beretta 303s all around 500 mark.

I used a benelli for years but traded it as i got bigger into clays, would prefer a magazine cut of thats on the berettas and brownings that alows the bolt to stay open when you extract a cartridge
