    Wed: sure
    Thurs: sure
    Fri: egads no
    Sat: sure
    Sun: sure

I'll see if I can get through to a couple southside places i've played at before to check availability during the week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭FrankGrimes

    Nice one for that Colm.

With the nature of my work I can never guarantee what time I'll get out of work at, but I'll be making every effort to get to any midweek sessions we can arrange that suits a good few players. So for me any midweek time is as good as any, and Saturday afternoon I can also do.

Hope everyone can make a big effort to try and make these sessions, and the first one for sure.

First thing we'll go through in the first tactics session is marking at goal-kicks, which has been poor. Things like that can result in a tangible benefit from even focusing on them for 10 minutes.

    Monday: nope
Tuesday: I can put off squash for a training session
Wednesday: not for the next 10 weeks
Thursday: I usually do circuit training thursdays so i'd prefer to keep this up but if thursday suits everyone it will suit me too.
    Friday: yup
    Saturday: yup

My hours can vary wildly each week so cant give definites, will make every effort to make ant session though

    Any luck Colm?

Anyone have any numbers for places that would be worth calling to check availability? If a few of us each ring a few places it'll be easy enough to get a good few places checked out.

Can play any evening except Tuesdays.

Anyone have any numbers for places that would be worth calling to check availability?

On the north-side there is a complex called ALSAA that has an 8 or 9-aside pitch.
I rang them just there and its available anytime Wednesday,Thursday and Friday
evening. Saturday after 12 and all day Sunday.

Price could be near 40 euro. I can ring back later to find this out.

They also have indoor football but its hard to book. I find it hard to book even
for a bunch of members. Indoor football is 6-aside

Also on the northside is the DCU 5-aside pitches. They are really good and
    cheap but are only 5-aside :( - E20

I wouldn't rule out 5 a side. We'll be doing well to get 10 people for a mid week session anyway seeing as we get 12-13 for most matches.

Yeah has to be 5-a-side, if there's more than 10 than we might get 3 small teams and do a "winner stays on" with each game timed at 5 mins.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 468 ✭✭MrJones

    i can't do tuesday nights.
i can do wednesdays only after 8.30.
would be available the other week night.
i reckon even a 5- aside indoor would be great. Especially for first touch, passing and movement.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 343 ✭✭kaizersoze123

Wednesday seems to be the one night so far that suits most people.
5-a side pitches seem to be the best option.

We have : DCU , can be booked for 20 euro. Question...do they let non students play there?, I remember they used to charge non DCU students a lot more for their indoor pitches.

Any other 5 a side pitches, either indoor or astro that anyone knows of?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,323 ✭✭✭Savman

There's astro pitches in Finglas at the new Swimming Pool click
We have a lot of options, there's a fair few astro's around now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 343 ✭✭kaizersoze123

Phoned the place in Finglas there, they're all block booked every evening.
Is DCU too far for people? Its 2 minutes off the M50 Ballymun exit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

DCU is fine for me, any night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,118 ✭✭✭LoBo

There's 5-a-side outdoor (but caged) pitches in irishtown at the ESB Sportsco. I'll add them to my list of people to ring about availability, haven't had a chance so far this week :/

Have to remember some folks who'll be bussing it out, DCU is easier to reach in that sense.
    I'll go anywhere really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,325 ✭✭✭Q_Ball

finglas sports and leisure centre have 5-a-sde caged pitches too. They were always empty an 10 on a saturday morning and only cost €20.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

The bus from town to ALSAA takes over a half an hour from town ,thats why I
thought that would be handy. Its about 5mins from DCU.

There are the Liffey Valley pitches. But I dont know about their price or avilability.

I can find out tomorrow though.

Could you check with DCU darragh, seeing as your the only DCU student (with enda being away of course) :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭FrankGrimes

lads, I've been seriously busy all week in work, even working today and tomorrow, so didn't get a chance to look into this. Looks like a few have and as we reckoned, it'll be hard to get a pitch to suit us. But that 9-a-side pitch sounds ideal, maybe if we could get that and fill any empty spaces with mates it'd do the job.

For this week we'll just have to try get everyone there as early as possible tomorrow, defo a full 30 minutes before the kick-off, and go through our setup at set pieces.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

Okay lads, i think it was generally agreed this evening that Wednesday will be good for most people. As late as possible, I'm thinking about 9 o'clock?

DCU or ALSAA would be fine for me, it shouldn't be too hard to get to either place at that time of an evening.

Darragh, will you look into either venue?

ALSAA sounds like the perfect location, especially if it can be got for nowt, but DCU would certainly be handier.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 159 ✭✭bugs90

I'm available wednesdays, either place is fine!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

Ill post back tomorrow with all the details I can get.

But I have an IOU with ALSAA so I can get this session for free. Even if we end
up with a preference for DCU at least this is free and it gets the ball rolling on
    midweek sessions.

    9 sounds good to me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 343 ✭✭kaizersoze123

Yeah 9 is good. Either place for me too. Once we get something booked we can confirm numbers so we know if we need to bring mates etc...

i might actually be able to make it for 9. I have a class finishing at 8 in town but i dont fancy bringing my guitar ;) I'll see if i can organise something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

Looks like we will have to use DCU for this one lads. The flood lights apparently
have been neglected up in ALSAA. Without them its too messy and dangerous :(
The as***e I was talking to during the week never told me this.

Is Enda able to book the DCU pitches? The DCU pitches are 30 euro for an hour.
They are 5 or 6-a-side I think. If anyone doesn't have a student card its 50

So I'm wondering If Enda has booked this before. I can't imagine them walking
out to check we have student cards during or after the game...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 343 ✭✭kaizersoze123

Enda is in japan for 3 weeks i think. If you can book it then pay the 30 , tell them we all have student cards. if they come out and check ,we can pay the extra, or else make a run for it :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

Both of them know my voice on the phone :( So they will know what Im up to
and will surely check for student IDs.

If someone could ring up and book it by credit card with my student ID number
and play stupid and say we are all students that would be much better. With
all 9 pitches booked they wont check student cards unless they are suspicious.
    Also I don't have a credit card.

I wont be in DCU till maybe Thursday so I cant book it in person.

Hmmmm, maybe we should pay the 5 euro each instead of 3 euro. Too much hassle trying to get around it. I'm sure no-one will object to paying a fiver?

Sure let the gaffer make the call on this one :)

I doubt the pitches will be all booked by tonight and hopefully Des will get in
touch then. Plus I can borrow a credit card tonight and book it tomorrow morning.

Either way, we are training at 9:00pm in DCU this Wednesday. :)

Do we have enough Boardeaux players or do we have to find friends?

    Edit:

Grabbed these few from this thread that said they can make it Wednesday. Not a bad list if we can get this many.
Im dicey on the names so let us know if I got them wrong.

    Savman - Shane? Sav :)
    LoBo - Colm?
    FrankGrimes - Jules
    BlackWizard - Darragh
    Gileadi - Simon
    Mikie - Mikie?
    Kaizersoze123 - Shea?
    MrJones - Mark/Mart
    Seansouth - Des (Coach)
    Bugs90 - Bernard?
    Q_ball - Darren?

    Anyway.

I think we should pay the fiver each.

Now, can everyone please make sure to bring a fiver. Not a fifty, not a twenty, a fiver.

Darragh, are you booking this? Or if you want me to, PM the number and I'll book it Tuesday morning.

    Cheers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭FrankGrimes

Fair play for organising this lads.

I've a major deadline on Thursday in work but I'd say 80% I should make 9pm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

    It been booked.

    Tomorrow at 9:00 , pitch 3

Dunno if we have access to the changing rooms so I'd come kitted out just in
    case.

Nice one, good work Darragh. So how many are turning up? Hope we don't end up with more than 5 a side :)

Let's make it 8.45pm (time is money and all that)

Can I just ask is this in the main DCU campus itself or in St. Clare's on the Ballymun Road (where we played a few games)??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 343 ✭✭kaizersoze123

It's the campus. There is an entrance on the Ballymun road, that road runs around past the student accomodation area towards the pitches. I dont know if there is parking there though. There is also an entrance from Collins Avenue, you can park in the multi-storey there and make your way over to the pitches from there.
Here's a map with where the pitches are (i havent played on them yet but have been told this is where they are,can you confirm Darragh?)

This seems like the turnout for tomorrow:

    Serbian - Peter
    Savman - Sav
    LoBo - Colm
    FrankGrimes - Jules
    BlackWizard - Darragh
    Gileadi - Simon
    Mikie - Mikie
    Kaizersoze123 - Shay/Shea
    MrJones - Brian
    Bugs90 - Joe
    Q_ball - Darren?
    Lepo
    Des

Not a bad turnout for the first one with not much notice.
If anyone cant make it then post so we can make up the numbers.

    Joe
