    I have a spare 80GB 2.5" (laptop) hard disk.

I bought one of these just before Christmass and it's working great - with a few limitations , after scanning ebay for a while, I found it hard to find a device with ALL the features I'm looking for.

    Sought after features :

    1. Plays all Divx/xvid codecs as you would expect
    2. Can be formatted NTFS for one big volume
    3. Has an Irish/UK ac adapter 3 pin plug ( not so important - but would be nice)
    4. Takes SD cards
    5. Records to xvid files
    6. has network connection for remote access ( never seen this feature yet)

    Not asking much :p

Anyone seen one of these mythical devices!

    Closest I've seen is this

hey zod thanks for the link from bargain alerts to this (the Argosy 320GB HDD thread).

Am considering getting one of these but what exactly are its drawbacks? Thanks

If your taking about the 2.5" one I bought just before Christmass limitations are

    1. must be formated Fat32 - 32GB partitions if created using XP disk manager ( for an 80 GB hd - that means you have 3 partitions )
    2. No SD card slots
    3. doesn't record
    4. no ethernet

Apart from that plays movies fine :D - good value i suppose

Well I've only got a 20gb 2.5" drive in an existing (cheap) enclosure, I don't have any SD cards.

Why would Ethernet be useful by the way?

if you wanted to leave it beside the telly while you remotely transferred movies to it from your PC in a different room - limited appeal I admit
