Was in Dunnes Stores in Enniskillen today. I purchased 50 sterling worth of goods for 70 euro. This works out at an exchange rate of 71.4

The actual rate as quoted on the NIB is 64.1 a saving of 10%.

They had a 42 inch philips plasma for 1000 sterling which would be 1400 euro. EDIT Just looked on dunnesstores.ie and that plasma is 1300 Euro

You get this rate by paying with cash not with credit / debit cards.

They also had some wooden garden furnature table and 4 chairs for 200 sterling. :)

Wonder if you purchased a packet of chewing gum with a 500 euro note, would you be up 55 euro.

I dont think this is a bargin so much as you just got extremely lucky, and Id say that advertising the fact that you found a flaw in the system will do two things

    A. Fix the problem pretty sharpish once someone associated with Dunnes sees your post
    B. Will give every chancer in Fermanagh and the surrounding area the advantage of capitalizing on a serious mistake...unless of course A comes into effect by tomorrow moring, and since most of those exchange rates are checked daily, I think youll find it will.

I think they were offering this rate to encourage shoppers from the ROI. NI shops often give preferential rates on Sterling.

In this case I gave in 70 euro and got the change in sterling. THe lady on the till looked at a sheet for the amount of money I gave her and input this amount into the cash register and gave me my change in sterling.

If you were not to exploit it you you would still get 10% of your shopping and many household items are cheaper in NI because of VAT etc...

Be shocked if  loads of boardsters went to dunnes with 500 euro notes to get a packet of fags.

Probably a limit to the max size of note they will take. Most shops in the ROI wont take more than 100 euro.

Don't buy your petrol in NI can be up to 50% dearer.

Also along the border ROI petrol is also over priced but still cheaper than NI.

    Sainsburys do the same.
They give a good exchange rate to get you to come in their shop to buy goods. The change would never be much and I'd guess there would be a
    maximum amount they would refund.
    Most shops won't take a 100 Euro not let alone a 500.
You will find it very hard to get a 500 euro note let alone spend it.

Even in France and Germany a shop will not accept 200 or 500 euro notes.
