Leg Cramps

I recently stated back training after about 6 months or so of doing very very little. Basically I am about 3 training sessions in and have started having very bad cramps in my calf’s. Its annoying as I’m not tired (as in my pulse isn’t too high) but im not able to run any further.
I have been stretching and warming up before running. Its going to be difficult to get fitter when im unable to run very far without cramping up

Any advice appreciated. Should I try run through it ???

    Thanks, Duckmusic

Increase time spent stretching calfs. (esplecially the stretch where ur in the press up position)
And also try using ice baths.
if unavailable, put an ice pack on your calfs when you get home from training

Deffo dont try run through it, perhaps you need to stretch it more than u are. Also, are you wearing good running shoes as sometimes the support (or lack of) on your foot can render your streches useless.

Yes and make sure you stretch it out properly. The calf is easy enough to overstretch. Drink plenty of water (drinks like powerade are good for cramps because of the electrolytes and carbs they offer), and just give it time. They need to strengthen, if you haven't been working them in the past.

you should be drinking about 4/5 litres of water a day... its a biggie if ur training!! and then as the rest say just a 5 minute warm up gettin ur muscles titen up, then stretch for about 15 secs on each muscle etc... then cool down and stretch them out for about 30 secs...

I thought it would be better to use this thread instead of starting a new one.

I got a leg cramp in my calf yesterday during a tough swimming session, its still quite stiff and sore. Should I keep up my exercise regime (like doing JuJitsu tonght) but taking it more easy, or should I just rest it?

Last time this happened it was like this for 4-5 days :(
