I was given a philips projector (bsure SV2) as the lamp was gone in it. Just wondering where would be a recomended place to buy a replacement? I have browsed and searched, found some Uk & Irish sites but seem very expensive compared to the USA? Would a lamp sold in the USA work in Ireland? Just I am worried about the 110V difference compared to our 240V?

getting the lamp from US won't matter, the voltage will be the same,

I'd have a hard time spending much money on a 800x600 projector, i'd be checking how much a similar spec'd projector costs new and weighing up how much i'd be willing to spend on fixing the old projector

I found most websites in the USA does the lamp for $360 (€280) with a few more quid for post. most websites here are charging €500 or more.

It is possible to buy new 800 x 600 projectors for the same money that you are planning on spending on the bulb alone , typically these are Acer and BenQ models but it should drive home the idea that replacing the bulb on that unit is not worth it , if you want a projector , then spend the money on a new one and not on a bulb for an out of warranty model.

Buying from outside europe you could get hit for import tax

like mathias says you can get a new projector for about 500euro from pixmania, a refurbished infocus for maybe 400euro, my rough guide would usually be if something costs so much new, i wouldn't pay more than half the new price to fix something old

the other thing is, is this the type of projector you want, there can be a huge differance between office projectors vs home theatre projectors

would make life so much easier if the lamps weren't so pricey

cheers guys, 260 euro is not to bad at all. the life of these bulbs for this model is 6000 hours apparently. we will see what i will do. But then if I buy a second hand working unit how do i know that will last?
