Zelda on wii and gamecube.

    quick question, does anyone know why nintendo decided to reverse everything in the gamecube version of zelda?

    not sure what i mean take a look at the two world maps.

    wii version
    gamecube version

    Link is traditionally left handed. In the GC version they stick with tradition and so everything is switched around so Link can act like the gosh darned leftie he is.
    In the Wii version, Nintendo realised a large proportion of folk are right handed. So they turned the whole thing around, and now the world is explorable from a right handed point of few.

    Yes, it doesn't really make that much sense.

    right i can understand changing the sword (always knew link was a lefty, commented on it playing Ocarina of time as i'm a lefty myself) but changing the map around doesn't really make sense.

    looking at the two maps though, it seems to me the gamecube one looks more like a zelda map if you know what i mean

    Well, it is a gamecube game first, adapted for the Wii, it will probably sell more copies here on the Wii than any other Zelda on any other format in Ireland, time will tell, certainly if it was a GC only release bugger all people would have played it outside of the Ninty fanbase.
    All this means that if we are lucky, we may see a genuine Wii Zelda in a couple of years, with some even nicer visuals and more confident use of Wii gestures built into the gameplay, instead of being tacked on.

    If they just flipped Link around, hit states and things would be off I think they said.

    As people have said, link is traditionally a lefty, so for gamecube version with a traditional controller everything is hunky dory.

    For the wii version they made him right handed because of the wiimote, the majority of wii owners are right handed, and since in the wii version your wiimote "acts" as link's sword they decided to make link a righty, as it felt more natural swinging the wiimote in your right hand and having link do the same on-screen.

    I guess the reason for reversing the entire game and not just link is so it doesn't accidentally affect any gameplay dynamics, or change the experience dramatically...

    ..or something.
