Ibook g4 trackpad problem

The trackpad on my g4 ibook has started to act up a bit lately. it intermitently stops responding for between 10 - 60 seconds and then works away as normal. anyone any ideas? its a 1.42 ghz power pc g4 ibook, using os 10.4.2.
