Hi all. I made the mistake of going into the Camera Exchange yesterday, and ended up putting down a deposit on a 100mm prime macro lens. Soligor I think, so only €150. It was a bit of an impulse buy. I do really want to get into Macro stuff and its definitely all I can afford at the moment. A quick search on Google says its not that bad a lens, especially considering the price.

I just noticed though the minimum aperture is 22. Is that ok? I want to be able to get those nice really short DOF shots.

Sure it isn't f3.5 and f22 is the smallest? At 3.5, on macro, I'm sure that'll be fairly shallow right enough...

The awkward thing about aperture when you're talking about it is that the big number means a small hole and a long DoF, and a small number means a big hole and a shallow DoF... confuzzling stuff.

I don't know the lens, but I'd say it'll do you grand :)

Best of luck with it. And yep, an f/ value of 22 will give a lot of DOF, whereas 3.5 will be really shallow!

P.S. I did a flickr search for the lens name and got this:

    Not too bad at all!

They're some great Macros. We had one of those bumbling around our house in wicklow a while back. They're massive ! They're also not native to ireland as far as I know so lord knows where it came from.

That comment on the picture is also quite funny ...

"The body is too fat and the wings are too short so it's obvious it can't fly!"

Yep sorry- wrong way around on the aperture thing :o I keep doing that!

    Bangs head on desk..

So I guess 3.5 is ok too lol.

Thats a nice pic of a horrible looking thing. I'm not big on insects. They give me the shivers.
