Problem uninstalling

    Hi,

Anyone come across this problem and how to resolve it.

Basically, like a lot of other people, my copy of Windows Defender expired at the end of 2006, so I tried to download and install the newest version. The instructions stated that I had to manually uninstall the Beta2 first.

But when I try to uninstall, it just hangs. Looking at the running processes, I can see msiexec is using 50% of the CPU (on a dual core system). Doesn't matter how long I wait either.

I've tried running the Windows Install Clean Up, but Defender isn't listed.

    Any ideas?

    I'm running WinXP MCE 2002 SP2.

    Thanks.

I take it you've tried safe mode

do you have the earlier down load to try a reinstall ?

I did, but safe mode doesn't let you install or uninstall....

    Tried that, still hangs.

I did download a newer version of Windows Install Clean Up, and I was able to clean up the installation (Windows Defender).

But it still hangs when I try to install the newest version...

I've checked the usual, that the installer service is running. Obviously, some installs can still work cos I installed the newest version of Windows Install Clear Up, so it must be something with certain types of install like Windows Defender...

    Ideas?
