Maiden were so much better! Still, Metallica were good & it's not as if there's anyone else worth voting for on that list...

    Whats the category?

Best washed up rock stars who play here every year, living off past glories, and bring their fans to court band 2006?

    They got my vote too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 389 ✭✭dango

Steam off my urine tbh. metallica were good but those acts were probably just as good. Maiden? get real, they stunk up the point.
OP did you go to all of those concerts? Otherwise it'd be hard "to even give a milisecond thought to" them...

I guess you were one of the people shouting for 'Aces High' then...

Unless of course you're referring to McBrain's flatulence problem :p

I had to go with Radiohead, sorry guys.

Btw, what's with the "Best Irish DJs" category, not one Phantom DJ? That's shít..

I was referring to Nicko's flatulence problem but was also disappointed with their setlist, venue and performance. I was one of the people who just bought their newest album and so was shouting for them to forget all their back catalogue consisting of decades of great songs and play their new album in its entirety which Bruce himself said " had sold well". Get me? Any way I prefered Opeth in vicar street to the Slayer, maiden or metallica concerts this year.:)
    Different strokes...

i think we should all vote for metallica. whatever you think of them, i thought it was a really good gig. also if it wins perhaps todayfm or 2fm will put on a dedicated metal show. we need one. i know phantom has a metal show on mondays and although i thinks its brilliant its only on once a week. actually maybe phantom can put on the show 5 days a week !!:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,276 ✭✭✭slayerking

All this talk of Maiden and Slayer....... There not in the Category for best live act at the Meteor awards!!!!!
Their live shows were excellent but Metallica's was pretty good also.
I think we All, as Metal fans, should give Metallica the vote for Metal!!!!

Arctic monkeys at ****** were actually brilliant. Although then again, why werent the Who in there, much better than RHCP anyway.

Anyway, I voted for metallica. Partly cos Pearl Jam wasnt there. Plus metallica had AIC.

Absolutely not. I'd vote for feckin Snow Patrol before I'd vote for Metallica. Why should I vote for a bunch of money grabbing, song stealing **** just because their music is in the "metal" genre?

    Love metal, hate Metallica.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,382 ✭✭✭Motley Crue

What about Guns N Roses? And besides, is the Metallica gig being judged on the basis of support acts too because Alice in Chains and Stone Sours only Irish Gigs of 2006 happened there too!

Furthermore, I think that this is a bit of a joke, Metallica where nominated last year and it just goes to show that Meteor is attempting to claim that they 'apprichate' the Metal music community of Ireland, or their financial backing (at long last)

They shouldnt pick Metallica because they genuinely dont expect them to win and its just a name drop PR stunt, and if they did, there would be uproar from fans of The Frames who go to Whelans every Fri night

Ok, i kinda agree with ya here. As in why should we vote just cos they in metal. I voted cos i genuinely though they were the best on the list. But for the bit in bold...im confused about? If ya mean covers, well then, everyone does them so its a poor arguement IMO.

It can be if you want it to be. AIC had a part in me voting for it anyway. It all added to the experience

Along with many others. Sound familiar?

Sorry IWM, alot of people need to be educated about things like this. Show Metallica up for the cocks that they are. For me, they are a disgrace to the genre.

To be honest man, love the first three albums in a very special way, but don't have a huge amount of respect for the individuals, due to everything they've done along the way. People are never going to be convinced of whether they stole Mustaine's material (Not declaring a stance here, don't care enough), so I just don't think it's worth arguing over personally, the last 4548929563 didn't solve anything, I sincerely doubt this one will.

What are you talking about, The Mechanix is just an early version of the four horsemen that was originally on 'no life til leather' which they changed the lyrics to before they put it on Kill em all.

This was all done while Mustaine was IN Metallica and before Megadeth......

Stealing???.....I don't get your argument

Does that give them the right to use his music after kicking him out of the band? Put yourself in Mustaine's shoes. You write a song, you're just about to go into the studio to record with Metallica. Then some morning they say "we're kicking you out of the band, oh and we're going to use the music you wrote on our album", and then they make millions in the process. It is absolutely disgusting.

Not saying its right but I don't feel too sorry for Mustaine! If Metallica weren't such assholes we wouldn't have some fantastic Megadeth albums :)

Ah yes, I see now. Fair enough, dont need to be educated on it either. Thanks for that link though, good vid. Am looking forward to seeing Megadeth sometime

No sign of Tool either. :(

its amazing theres so much debate on which concert was better even though many of the acts are forbidden to be spoke about in concert terms on the boards??

anyways my 2cents, tool were the best of the year, pearl jam was disappointing, muse rocked suprisingly well, soulfly back in january was great, but the vote for metallica isnt wasted as they played the full master of puppets album live, deserve it for that. they might be a past force butby playing that show they showed why they will always be remembered

While I support Metallica winning this poll, I still think despite the large numbers of votes cast, it'll still go to the most Pop Friendly band on the list. Still, at least it cant go to the Killers thank god lol!
