"Running it twice"

I'm watched some episodes of High stakes Poker on YouTube in the past few days and I'm a little confused by when they run the board (or a portion of the board) twice. Basically my question is are they halving the pot and playing for the half pot each time they run? So if there was a 100k pot and they decide to run it twice are they running it for 50k each time?

You can also run it 3 times and best of 3 takes all which i like.

Is that how it works ?

I always thought the winner of the first run of cards wins the first third of the pot, the winner of the second run of cards wins the second third of the pot and the third the third ?

I've never heard of this but if you can get someone to agree to this when you are ahead in the pot, definitely do it as it is hugely +EV.

In real terms I suppose you can run it anyway you like as long as both players agree to it.
