Having some problems with the girlfriend, nothing too serious, so want to take her somewhere for a weekend to clear our minds. Working on a bit of a budget, but was able to find 2 return tickets to Rome for a total of €240 which isnt bad, but still slightly expensive. Any other ideas? Thanks folks.

Was in London last week, and its a lovely little city, and the cheap flights help. You would probably want something slightly further afield I'm guessing but its worth a thought.

I'll look into it, the destination doesnt matter, ive even thought about some Irish locations.

Just wondering if you could expand a bit on your london trip. How much were the flights per person if you dont mind sharing, and are the hotels expensive?

Well we only stayed in a hostel in London, but stayed in the Southampton Hilton last week as well which had a special offer of roughly €35 per person per night, which is great value. Southampton is a nice little town as well, and easily accesible by Gatwick/Bournemouth/Southampton airports. Flights to Gatwick were very cheap, can't remember how much but think it was less than €50 per person return overall. Theres always plenty to do in London, but I'd imagine the hotels are relatively expensive. Still, worth saving money on the flights and spending it on accomodation and enjoying yourself while you're there.

I've also been to Brussels in the last while, and wouldn't recommend it.

Check out the Aer Lingus sale:

New York, Boston, Chicago or Las Angeles for as little as €100 if you book before February!

For me you can't beat New York, but if you can rent a car I'd fly to LA just for the value...

Consider going to Antwerp - it's a great city and very close to Brussels Airport (very efficient bus takes 45 minutes). You'd have to fly Aer Lingus though and not take the Ryanair flight to Charleroi, which is a pain to get to.

There are some lovely hotels, such as this one: http://www.guesthouse26.be/, which I looked at but didn't stay in. I was there last Noveber, and found the city beautiful, the people very friendly, and the food excellent and affordable. There are lots of nice cafés too (for the soul-searching chats!). I think it was recently voted Europe's trendiest city, and that really describes it well.

I haven't been but everybody I know who's been to Lisbon really enjoyed it. flights from around e85 return including taxes and there's a nice looking holiday inn in the city centre (www.ichotels.com) for e30 per night each. I checked it out cos I was planning to go next month but unfortunately my mate has backed out now so staying here:(

It was the Picadilly backpackers hostel, 30 seconds walk from Picadilly Circus so it's in a prime location. I stayed there last summer as well and I'd highly recommend it.
