if you have an intel mac, you can install windows xp with bootcamp and play pc games.

for macbook since you don't have a dedicated graphics card you'll be sticking to oldish games like unreal tournament/half-life/quake3

macbook pro probably goes a bit further as they have x1600 cards in them if i'm correct.

A lot of the big Windows games are also ported to OSX.

Best bet is still to install bootcamp really. Although as Cremo said the basic macbook has the gma950 integrated graphics solution restricting you to somewhat older titles from 2002-ish at decent playable levels. And again, yes the MB Pro has the X1600 will will run essentially anything out right now.

edit: Wolfenstein Enemy Territory runs fine on the GMA950 and there is a mac download available, it's all you'd ever need! :D

bootcamp essentially allows you to dual boot.

this means you can choose when you start up your laptop which operating system you want to load.

    Mac OSX
    Windows XP
    Linux variant
    etc.

You won't get any joy out of Virtual PC.... I've always found it runs like a dog.

Boot camp is the way to go... or I've heard good things about Parallels Desktop

Let me know how you get on as my XPS laptop died on my recently and I was thinking of replacing it with a MacBook Pro instead for gaming.

You spent 2.5 grand on a computer with an alien (to you ?) OS to play games ???

Firstly Virtual PC won't run on any Intel Mac, it was built for PowerPC Macs.
Secondly - even then playing games would be impossible. Parallels Desktop will run XP and let you run Office etc. but 3D games . . . forget it ! To play games you will need Bootcamp which lets the Mac boot into Windwoes XP and directly access the graphics and sound hardware.
