I have been having this problem since i bought my 360 about 3 months ago i have downloaded windows media connect i have downloaded the new media player. I can get my computer to recognize my xbox 360 but i cannot get my 360 to find my computer. I have a ethernet cable directly from my 360 to my pc it is a cross over cable, i was told i didnt need one but it would work either way. Please guys help me out i have used all of my recources. Hi d3dw8t,

If you have media player 11 installed you don’t need windows media connect as it is built into it and in fact I have heard that it can cause problems, so I would uninstall both of them and reinstall media player 11.
Also if you have a fire wall it will block the Xbox connecting to your Pc so check that.

I am streaming photos, video and music from my windows XP pc to my Xbox over a wireless network and it works great.

Let us know how you get on

I have run it on a wired and wireless network so you should be able to. Have you turned on network sharing in windows mp11 ? to do this in the player click library, media sharing.

Do you connect to xboxlive ? and if so how?

when you click on the system blade, network settings, test media connection on the xbox 360 dashboard were does the connection fail ?

hopefully this will tell us where to start looking.

Also when I connect my network together I have a router at the heart of it so that’s issuing IP address to everything on my network, you have a cable running from your Xbox to your PC so it could be an IP address problem.

    On the xbox 360
Go into the system blade, network settings, edit settings on the basic settings tab click on IP settings and then on manual now fill in the IP address, subnet mask and gateway (which should be your pc).

    Mark.

if it makes you feel any better. I have a windows XP Media Center machine and I can't get my xbox connected with it. Have tried a multitude of things... really pissing me off

Might be worth your while asking in the XBox Forum as it may have more people who have got it working
