as a rule in general dont fold sets but the way the villain played this hand it looks like he hit his flush.

make a crying call and hope the donk tables KJ.

    I fold here.

If you did call I expect to see AdJd

His line is consistent with a flush draw from a bad player - check, calling all the way and jamming when it hits. Is he clever enough to float you with designs of representing the flush when it gets there??

If you are ahead you will see him table two pair (probably with the King), or a bizzarely played AK / KQ. Eh...I'm calling - though I don't like it atall.
Lloyd - you have put forward the rational as to why he has made his flush and yet you advocate a call.

The only hand he has that we beat and he bets like that with is KJ double suited. I think we have to give the player enough of credit to realise that we are not playing for a flush here but not enough credit for him to realise that we have hit top set on the river. I think we are shown a flush here more often than KJ and I think it is a pretty straight forward fold.

IMO he has made the nuts and sh1t himself wondering how much to bet - before finally deciding to jamm it all in.

[Edit: I could be miles off on this one but the above is my line]

I think he has been trapping poorly with a set often enough for this to be a call. The only really likely hands for him though are a set or AdJd/QdJd unless he is an idiot. I would call since I get angry with him just thinking he has the flush and quite likely pay him off, but I still call.

Also, the fact that the OP bet 1/2 pot on the river as opposed to full pot on flop and turn may have convinced him that it was a sign of weakness.

    probably spot on there BCB

but then again he could also have J8!!

I probably go to click fold but call anyway....

Tricky one indeed, I think you played it well, possibly apart from PF, I'd have made it $4-$5, but I assume $3.50 was your standard opening raise over the last few hours and so you probably had no choice.

I'd also call the River, but that's because I never fold sets to a 56/6 Donkey, even if a large % of his range is a flush. How was he playing draws in the previous hands, this is probably very much a decision to be made at the time using all the available info, but it's around $120 to call for a pot currently worth ~$240. I can see a slowly played set here enough to warrant a call getting 2:1. So my default would be to call nearly everytime without a good read saying otherwise.

Whats his river AF like. Since he's 56/6 I find it near impossible to fold this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 463 ✭✭reilly110

his af on river is 0.89-- so its pretty low

i think the main problem is would he check the river to raise

Over how many hands is this? Its pretty close then. I think its a fold if his river AF is over a decent number of hands.

fold, though I would bet more on the river, which would make it a call I think.

    any results on this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 463 ✭✭reilly110

i nearly timed out but i made a crying call at the last second
i didnt think the player in question was capable of checking the river with a flush and then raise --he would have bet his flush into me

result: he showed the unbelievable hand of pocket 99
