Right, a good few of us had stalls at this last year, and I think we all enjoyed it and got experience out of it.

I was talking to Eddie Mallin at it, one of the organisers, and a really sound chap. I mentioned to him about getting a boards.ie group stall next (this) year. Basically, he said to get back to him in the new year, after January.

So, who here would be up for this?

The website is http://www.peoples-photography.com/ if your clueless.

It works out being 15 a head for the 2 days, or at least it was last year.

Let me know of numbers, and when it's definite, I'll email Eddie, and try get us a decent stall, all together in a good area, and make plenty of money.

    Cheers all.

Didn't sell a whole pile down to location and weather, but we're gonna try improve the location this time round.

It'll be on during the summer alright!

    Seb added!

from what i understand, no-one sells a whole pile at this, regardless of location or weather.
i have heard warnings that if you're expecting to make a mint by exhibiting at this, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Ah at the end of the day, it's all for the experience, and the bit of craic.

I'm not hugely bothered by making a mint off it. Last year, pretty much what I made, I spent back on other peoples work.

That said, from talking around, the part of the park nearest Grafton St. did sell quite a bit, especially compared to us the very back.

    Edit:

    List being:
    Fajitas!
    Rymus
    Sebzy
    440hz

Oh and do ensure that if youre coming along you actually have stuff to sell.... I dont want to be stuck next to a similarly interesting chap that I was last year...

Lol...15 quid to read a book outside Stephans Green for a day... Expensive book...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 194 ✭✭abulense

    Hi Guys,
I've heard about this before and would love a chance to 'exhibit' my wares this year. Would be a great chance to meet like-minded people and talk shop about photography! (Still a relatively new comer to photography).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,057 ✭✭✭kjt

I'd be interested but wouldn't know for sure till closer to the time :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Righto, well I hope to have this sent off by the second week of feburary, just to try get the group space, but remember that they take places right up to the day of the show.

Actually, remember folks, you can always share your space with someone else if you feel you don't have enough work or anything.

It wasn't the book that made me laugh.. it was the 7 6x4 prints of glass eyeballs, a tree, some kind of desk and various other bits & bobs. It even eventually got old when people would walk up to the 'display', look for a few seconds then spin around to see if the guy was an escapee from a local looney bin.

    How does the space work.

Is a group space part of a normal space (i.e. smaller per person) or similar or what?

    Ta, T.

    Sign me up then!

At least if we're round the front and in a group we'll be a bit more sociable. And maybe even have a better plan for waterproof-ness, like those fancy buggers with the custom built shelters. Who has a drill and a saw?

Must print some A3's this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

Covey, it's about 6' x 8'. The whole idea of getting a group booking is so we'll all be together. The group space will be broken up into individual 6x8 spaces (or half a space if you havent got much to sell).

Elven, I was almost 100% waterproofed last year.. Get one of those garden furniture covers and I'd strongly suggest to anyone that you get some of those plastic pockets for prints. I got a whole load of em off ebay a few weeks before the event and they're still keeping my prints clean & dry. I got them off this guy - http://www.bagsunlimited.com/cart/browse.asp?subcat=442

    Mise Freisin (sp?)

It's on the August Bank Holiday weekend isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

If it's the bank holiday in August, I'm in too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

At this rate - we'd need an entire side of the green...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

Actually, I'd say it'd help Al out in the long run if we all specify if we'll need a full 6'x8' space or half a space. Might help once booking time comes around..

Personally I'll need a full space, maybe a space and a half if I'm next to some accomodating people :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Yep, I'm pretty much taking for granted that yer all gonna be wanting full spaces, if you want to share, let me know! I guess one thing about being in a group is that we're not going to be EXACTLY limited to the space, if we need an inch or two over, I'm sure noone will mind too much.

Essentials are waterproof covers for your prints, a big sheet of plastic, and some way of putting your work on the fence.

I got some of that fencing made of string you put over strawberries and the like last year. Was so easy to set up with some cable ties, it took about 4 minutes.

Remember, that it is a fair bit away...but be somewhat prepared!! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 657 ✭✭✭Benster

Might be best to keep all the advice on how to set up until nearer the time, sure it's months away yet.

No doubt this sticky will be much read and contributed to around July/Aug, it'll be pretty choc-full of info then.

I'd say if you get that group application into them this month, you'd have a great chance of being on a decent side of the Green (ie. the Dawson St side).

The BBQ swung it for me. With all those water hens and ducks within striking distance it should be a tasty affair! Count me in.

Pretty sure I won't have anything worth selling, but I'll come down and do the BBQ thing if I'm not doing my usual stint in the wilds of Kerry that week. I missed it last year but I've heard its good craic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,496 ✭✭✭jlang

I know I promised my project for the year would be to have enough printable shots to get in on this, but half way there and I've only a couple I'd be happy to put on show. I should have a few more and would like to be involved, but more likely only a shared section or perhaps just a few in a general group gallery might be a better bet for me. I'm not bothered about having my name over the top or whether anyone wants to buy them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Would love to be part of this but in reality I am only starting out here so not sure I'd have enough of a standard shot for this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

gandalf and jlang; rest assured that there is no standard and there is no set amount of prints. Last August the work on display ranged from the laughably bad to the jaw droppingly good. Some people had 30/40 prints, some had less than 10. Even if you only have one good photograph you should get involved.

    Wow it was great job!

    I love photography too. I take a pictures a lot :))
Earlier I liked flash very much. I made huge collection of flash presentations. It looks very awesome with flash effects :)

But now I mostly like to show it to my friends. I convert flash to video format and burn it to CD. I use cool prog for this - *snip*. It works perfect and easy.

Sorry. Guess I've distracted from general theme :P

Edited; removed attempt at software pimping.

Fajitas! add me to the list for this. I am sure I can line up a few good photos before then especially if I have a bit of tutoring. Plus it gives me an excuse to book a weekend away somewhere interesting around April to get a few photos :D

Hi, I just joined there about half an hour ago. Would it be possible to put my name on the list too please? I wouldn't need that much space (at the moment, I have three photos and one of them is an engaging picture of my finger covering the lens...you know, arty stuff and suchlike :D )

Provided I am in the country for it you can count me in (dot worry though, there will be no last minute pulling out, If I'm in 100% I'm in) :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭Xios

Ok, so le's make a list and book the required number of spaces, maybe the north side would be best as it's closest to grafton st and the shopping centre, so lots of tourists will be coming out way. but the down side is lots of shadow :(
It's be nice for all of us to be on the same side, cause we can advertise each other by word of mouth, like if someone wanted a landscape photo and you only do portrait, then ya just say "4 spaces down, that guy has great work"
Is someone taking charge of this?

oh crap, north and east are full, only south is left :(
    27'ish spaces left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

Full, already? Oh crap! That's mince.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf
