Running bad for the first time

He title pretty much explains it all. After joining FTR and with the very helpful knowledge of people here I was able to turn a good profit over the last 9000 hands. My bb/100 would range from around 4-7 depending on how I was running. I chalked that up to variance and figured hey this is not too bad.

Fast forward to the last couple of weeks. I cannot win a session. 13 out of my last 14 sessions have been in the red. I know I should not think of sessions individually but it wears on you when you come up big on a set and then your stack is slowly dwindled away. The thing is I am not making bad plays either. I think variance is just rearing its ugly head. I have started to get frustrated lately and have not been playing as much poker. Today on Bodog was ridiculous with all my quality hands running into sets, flushes etc. Hopefully this whole thing will clear up lately. I need to have patience and play through it.

It is real sad seeing that bb/100 way under 3 though.

Thanks for reading the rant, any feedback on advice to not go tilty and play my way through this would be appreciated.

That's not running bad at all!

look what happened me between 11k and 20k, 9k hands is nothing, pok3rplayer went on a 50k hand down swing. Just ride it out, it's a shorterm blip

If Marq was to post here he would say 'Move up levels'. However, not listening to mos tof the things Marq says is a piece of advice you should hang on to.

We've all been there. Everything seems to go wrong. Even when you try and bash your mouse against the wall it doesn't break until it rebounds and hits you in the nose, explodes and you get mouse bits in your eyes (never actually happened, but who knows).

I think the sensible thing to do with this is remain focussed, review your recent sessions if you have pokertracker or similiar to see if you can find any obvious mistakes. Also, you should make sure that your recent bad run isn't affecting your bankroll stability, and if it is you should move down levels, Moving down also helps clear your head during a bad run at a cheaper price too.

move down the limits, don't play limit, play no limit and when you think that you are 30% ahead stick the whole lot in!

    or

play limit, move up the limits and push from the front.

either way, call less, push more and take breaks.

may sound facetious but you have to find a table that you can intimidate or you will be in turn bullied.

(or do as i do and go back to playing golf... :( )

Don't pay that much attention to PT. Pay more attention to each difficult hand and situation you come across. You seem to be getting a bit caught up on keeping PT numbers in the green instead of playing well and making good decisions.
Go through your recent losing sessions on PT, sort hands by $$amount won/lost and see if you played them badly or if you just got outdrawn.

Will have to check that graph too...

Just ride it out m8. Play solid, like the lads said, review your big loosing hands in PT and look forward to when it turns around and you think you have the game complete sussed out again for the 8th time!

You know what’s happening because you've said so yourself, and you know exactly not to let it tilt you.
