Undistorting a wide angle image

    Hi all,

I took some pics yesterday at a family gathering, using the Sigma 10-20 wide angle lens (needed it to get everyone in). At the widest angles, from 10-15ish, each side of the images are stretched, creating a very unflattering look for the people siting on either side.
I was wondering is there anything I can do to negate this effect and make the people look normal again? I'm sure I would not be thinked for making people look like that...

Sample of ono of the photos attached.

Thanks for any hints or tips

Bugger all as far as I know, but the effect is very pronounced.

PTLens is supposed to be the job, but you can also easily do in PSCS2.

Might try the lens Distortion Filter in photoshop too

Just messing around for a second or two and set distortion to -18

I have Photoshop 7. How would you go about doing something like this? I'm pretty clueless about photoshop

Edit: Thanks Sebzy, that looks great. Ehm...do you have instructions ?

    Using CS2 here

    Open image in photoshop
    Select Filter->Distort->Lens Correction....
Set remove distortion to -18 and apply

    TADA

Had a video about this...I'll see if I can dig it up and send it on.
Will PM the link to you Cambo. You'll need WinRar and quicktime installed.

sorry for being OT ,is pin cushion distortion a factor of wide angle lenses like the 10-20 ?? .
Sometimes I can see distortion in the centre of images i.e. Lamposts.

Normally get barrel distortion from wide angles and pin cushion from longer focal lengths, in particular telephoto lenses of long FL.

It does, but apparently most obviously in midrange (see here). Looking at those charts though, it doesn't look too extreme, so I'd say you're mostly seeing the effect extreme wide angles have on straight lines.
