Bring a newspaper and you'll be fine in most places. You could also look out for a social club of some sort. There are lots of them out there.

There are many many fine pubs in the city, where you can go and sit at the bar, have a couple of pints on your own, and not get intimidated or look like a tool.

You'll find that you're not the only person on their own in the place either..

    Mulligans
    Bowes
    Toddy's
    The Stag's Head

.. to name a few. Depends where in the city you're thinking of.

Any 'real' pubs, without banging music or stupid TV screens still harbour solo drinkers and often () strangers passing the time in conversation.

Devitts is another one (or the cusack stand - both names are on the building) - its up from the palace on camden st. very nice spot, often stopped in to watch a game or relax before meeting people and have a nice pint of guinness.

my local the breffni in blackrock is excellent for a pint and a read, in town i would say molloys in talbot street is good, but you would hardly get funny looks in any pub to be honest

Most 'workman' type of pubs are ideal IMO. They tend to serve a good pint, at a reasonable price and are totally unpretentious.

Love a day off, a wee drink, a paper, and a pub with a fire......
