Zelda save game issue

Has anyone else had a problem with their save game in Zelda when they are in the mines.
I was playing a few nights ago and had gotten a little past that part in the Goron mines where you have to hop accross the rocks as the flames shoot up and then bash through the wood and stand on the buttons with your metal boots etc.
Anyway I progressed by there for about 25 minutes and was tired so saved and went to bed.

I went to play it again last night and I was back at the fire bit. I thought that I must have forgotten to save it so I trolled on through it again. I noticed though that the chests that I had opened on my previous run were still open so although it moved me back it did realise I had been passed so the save had at least partially worked.
Anyway I went on and bet the boss and got a little further and saved the game before turning off the console.

I just turned it back on and loaded it up and I'm back at the same poxy part.
Did this happen to anyone else?
    Is it normal?
It sucks that I have to go through it again and may end up back in the same spot tomorrow.

    HELP ME!!!!!

When you save you go back to the start of an area usually, remember that its all one big dungeon you're in there,so you're going back to the start of it.

Even though I had beaten a mid level boss and all?

Yup, they have a nice way around it in TP though, if you use Ooccoo to warp out of the dungeon, then save, when you reload you can just warp back into the same spot as before

But the Mid-way boss will remain dead even if you're returned to the start.
So don't worry.I never used the creepy woman bird thing!
I'm well used to starting at the start of the area from all the previous games.
And I tend not to start on a dungeon unless I'm going to finish it before turning the console off, so this never really was a problem to me.

Yeah thats cool. I'll know to do either from now on.
I thought there was something wrong with my saves.
Its not so much stress now that I know to work around it.
