Energy Saving mode - how to configure PC

Well I think they are simply referring to standby mode which is useful if you leave the machine on for extended periods.

Go into Windows control panel and then into power options, set the system standby mode to kick in say after 10 minutes of inactivity (if no-ones uses the computer).

Set the monitor to turn off say after 5 minutes so the display will turn off but the system will still be running until the 10 minute timer kicks in and goes into standby.

To bring it out of standby simply press a key on the keyboard or sometimes the power button on certain systems.

There is also another mode called Hibernation if your computer supports it, more info here.

I have successfully changed the settings and PC now goes into Stand-by mode after five minutes of inactivity. The problem is the sound keeps going off and can only be brought back by restarting the PC.

Any ideas why it is doing this and how to fix it?

I'd guess you just want to kill your screen ...
going into standby / hibernation ... means ... your computer isn't meant to be doing anything so do this .. (so to speak)

-> Right click on your desktop
    -> Properties
-> Monitor Power -> Click "Power"
-> Turn off monitor: After 5 minutes ...

that any help to you ?

Thank you but I'm happy with stand-by mode as it saves the most energy. Would there be a type of ''fix' for the sound ?

by sound .. I assume you were meaning you want your music to continue playing while your computer is in hibernation ? (if not then I've misunderstood)

No, when I want to bring the PC out of Stand-by mode, I press the power button on the CPU and it brings up the screen I was last working on. The problem is that now the sound does not work but it was before the first transfer into stand-by mode. In order to get it working again, I have to re-start the PC.

What kind of sound card is in the system ?

A driver update may resolve the problem.

The sound card is apparently integrated into the motherboard.

I've been on the Motherboard website - Gigabyte - and have found the sound driver download for the model -7VM333M-RZ. Should I just download this or would this cause a problem? Here is the link

Download the audio drivers from here instead as these are more up to date & direct from the chips maker.

Fixed the audio problem but the PC has stopped entering stand by mode. If I open up Power Options and then select a time for stand by it will work but then after coming out of stand by it will not work again - any ideas?

Try updating all your other drivers if you can, and also make sure Windows is up to date (windowsupdate.microsoft.com).

Try updating the bios of the board as well because it is an unusual problem you have their by the sounds of it.

Nothing else is running in the background either that is preventing it from going into Standby like an active program that is doing something so the computer isn't idle ?
