Hey all, at present Im on the Eircom Plus Package:
     	Downstream Rate: 2048 Kbps
      	Upstream Rate: 256 Kbps

I want to switch to Metro, but am a little confused. It says it covers Dublin - Im in Rush, Fingal. I was wondering would it cover there.

How would you rate Metro from Digiweb? Bad/good. I am probably going to get the Metro Normal if possible, everything seems better than Eircom on it lol.

One querie though, it says the Ratio is : 36:1 on the Metro Normal, is this good? What does it mean? Is it better than Eircom?

    Is Digiweb reliable?

hi metro user here.no no no.i'm on the three rock mast so the worst service to have but if u live elsewhere u might be ok and i stress "might". the support is terrible.if u play online games forget it coz pings to high.
sorry 4 all the negs but thats my expierience of them.
oh as 4 the contention u can share ur speed with 36 people.digiweb told me that coz of that 83kbps is acceptable download speed! ffs only slightly higher than dialup

Eircom dsl and all resold DSL is 48:1 contention, i.e. share with 48 people.

Metro pings are as good or better than DSL.

The Three Rock mast is the only one I have heard complaints about here on Boards, so maybe there is interference. If it is interference, will get solved as unlike some unreliable systems Digiweb uses Licenced spectrum.

36:1 contention is not meaning a 83kbps download speed.

I know some people in Limerick that have changed from eircom DSL to Metro and now get a better service.

My upload speed is always 512k and download varies from 1.5Mbps (due to contention no doubt) to 3Mbps, mostly about 3Mbps.

However I have no idea if Metro is in Rush or which mast that would use if there is Metro there.
Pinging ftp.heanet.ie [193.1.193.64] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 193.1.193.64: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=58
    Reply from 193.1.193.64: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=58
    Reply from 193.1.193.64: bytes=32 time=22ms TTL=58
    Reply from 193.1.193.64: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=58

    Ping statistics for 193.1.193.64:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 21ms, Maximum = 24ms, Average = 22ms

    Current ping to heanet

Well Metro is cheaper than Eircom for a start and install is free if you sign up for annual contract.

If you decide to try to get it then make an application on web. Its a 'no foal no fee' set up. If they can't take you as a custormer it isn't going to cost you anything.

The area coverage is increasing fast (check website). In Galway for example it still services areas which are a few miles outside the stated coverage area because there is line of sight.

That's complete balls. In most exchanges there's no contention at all. Nearly all complaints of contention come from wireless users.

    Watty,
like yourself i have been a digiweb enthusiast and have convinced at least two people to sign for the metro product-however three rock has been bad for three months now- i have been forced to give up blueface because of it-digiweb's phone service was working but this past week it has been rubbish as well. I suspect I will be resigning with Eircom by the end of this week for a phone service. There was a time digiweb would acknowledge problems but they are performing a snow job on this problem. If Three Rock is their busiest mast it must also be their best income generator. If they cannot resolve this one it looks bad for your mast. this is Sunday and presumably a lot of their business clients are off line, the download speed now is 1.21, It has been lower.

right this is an example of my speeds on a good night and trust me this is the best night i've had in months.i add that during tests it can vary nearly the whole 3mbs and not much better with uploads.from DIGIWEB TECH2 support i was told 83KBPS IS ACCEPTABLE with 36:1.

if contention is 36:1 for your connection then you probably would have been told that your guaranteed rate is 83kbps not an "acceptable" rate....

That's a handy site Dak. My brother lives in Clonee (Littlepace) and I see there are various options available to him. He had signed up to Irish Broadband but their service is brutal so he wants to switch. Does anyone know what the Digiweb metro service is like there?
