first revision of apartment design guidelines since 1995 back when the hinternit and broadband was but a pipedream to most.

no carrier neutral ducting to allow a number of service providers in. Monopolies are guaranteed forever. See here

Its supposed to be a consultation so the various telcos should get the finger out fast.

In France one would consider a 73m2 as an OK studio apartment for one guy to live in before he has a family (assuming a ceiling height of at least 3,5 m) and a basement storage area ("cave") of 8m2 + 1 or 2 parking spaces. In this discussion document, gov.ie proposes a 73 m2 to be acceptable (as a four person house) for a family, hoping that they won't have to move out of this government specified sardine can into KE, MH or WW to get the family friendly M2 that one can get in an apartment virtually anywhere on the continent (eg 150 to 300 M2+)

    [rant mode = off]

There is no mention of broadband or fibre or choice of provider in this document.

    Morons!

Even the developers are complaining about this incompetence! See the Howard Holdings Greg Coughlan item in Saturday's Irish Times.

but Jim Humphreys and Tom Sheridan of the department of the environment were on the Civil Service committee which produced what is still the single definitive report on Irish BB provision and recommending ducts in all new apartments 5 YEARS AGO , what happened to Jim and Tom.

see pages 23-25 of that link, they have known about this for years and have known exactly what to do about it as well !
