Right, I'm terrible for putting my kit through the wars, even after barely 2 months use, my 5D has a scratch or three. Saw a small feature in Photography Monthly this morning with Camera Armour, looks pretty handy. Anyone else heard anything about them? Is there anything else like that?

    Link is www.camerarmor.com

I'd say they could be well worth checking out.

Good god I look like a shill.

Well yes, in my case when I get the new camera it will keep it clean and scratch less. But seeing as you have defaced your your little baby already.......... ;) Seriously, it looks like a good investment, especially if you ever end up selling it.

Just emailed there to see how much protection it offers battery grips. I mean, there's no point in not protecting the whole lot.

I suppose with digital cameras becoming so popular it wont be long before you will be able to get whatever protection you need for them from a slot machine in your local!:rolleyes::)

I think something like that would be pretty useless unless you could somehow justify needing it - like taking cameras up mountain cliffs or in warzones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

And not just general knocks from use? Tbh, cliffs and warzones would need a lot more protection.

Don't Temple Bar and Kilmainham qualify as war zones then??

Yeah they do, seriously looks like a condom for you camera. :)

If they're easy to take on and off I'd consider one for my mountainy stuff, I'm always using my head as a brake pad, it's only a matter of time before the camera gets it.

I've been using an EOS from the mid-1990s. No protection whatever, and I bashed it around a good bit alright. The camera wasn't affected in any functional way. Just a few scratches that you'd hardly see anyway.

I also recently got a MacBook Pro. I got some ugly scratches on it. I was peeved for a few days at the sullying of my pristeen new computer. But later, I though, "get a grip".

I wouldn't worry about it. The 5D is a sturdy prosumer camera. It's built to put up with damage. But if you want to shove a load of latex around it, go for it.

Camera Armor ha come one people get a grip. So what if your camera gets a few knocks their designed to withstand it. A few scratches here and there wont stop you from talking a picture. Buy a screen protector and use your lens hoods whenever you can.

The most that Armor will do for you is screw with the camera's ergonomics and add to it's weight.

Hey but if your planning on doing some mountaineering it may be worth it

I think some of the army surplus sites have "tank drivers" overalls, which are a think layer of protection for these guys both from the elements and from the rough and tumble of tank driving. They are pretty bulky, so you could probably get into one and bring your 5d in there with you. :-)

Question to those who use such armouring:how tightly is this yok sitting on camera???If its sitting loose in a way, I'm afraid it might be same situation like using mobile phone cover:loosefit leads to more sctratching then keeping it coverless:D

ha ha!! wellies for cameras!!! :)

or something you'd see in the Batmobile

    and

what about the €2000.00 lens hanging around on the outside ???

lens isn't covered is it, nor a grip or flash or whatever!

    insurance cover might be better
    it's just another gadget!!

reminds me of people who have plastic on their new sofa etc. to keep it new looking. Stuff gets scuffed scratched bruised etc. it gives it character and makes it familiar after a while you wont notice all the little marks and that so long as they're not on the front element of the lens ;)

    I would consider it if:
    I didn't have a battery grip.
It was someway waterproof (It isn't as it allows access to battery, flash etc).
The Lens addition actually covered more of the lens somehow as opposed
    to , only the hood.

Other than those minor things for me, I would get it. :)

I'd personally never do that but I heard some guys on another forum talk about it... :D
