Just got one today with Zelda. What other games should I be looking at?

I'm thinking perhaps Rayman and definitely Wario Ware.

    yeah wario ware looks deadly.

i have red steel and its really shallow after u get past the novelty of the controls.

wii play is always another option givin that u get the free controller with it.

Wii Play is good for small fun and playing in between other games... not really a standalone. As 1up mentioned, it would have done better to have it either free or inbuilt into the system.

Warioware is out tomorrow and should be a great game (based solely on previous titles, im buying it anyway :))

I quite liked Red Steel, not the deepest game or the most challenging if you took your time but worth your time... letting loose with an uzi in a videogame has never been so much fun.

Id love for some set release dates for third party as well as first party games so i can see the gaps in games... can't wait for the Mario (mid to late 2007 and 2008) games and Metroid (pretty damn soon if Reggie is to be believed).

Yeh, something like that... I'd like it to be first quarter anyway.

The good thing about this little 'tit-bits for the mob' strategy employed by Nintendo is that we can anticipate these massive titles like the Mario's and such while letting the smaller games jump up out of nowhere. I can just imagine me finding out about games like Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles about 3/4 days before it comes out and battling my way into town to pick them up on launch (finances depending).

All the while the virtual console craps out games i don't want and little gems like Gunstar and Street's of Rage (confirmed) that ill snap up when im good and ready.

There's a rumour that it has been delayed well into 2007. Nintendo aren't confirming the march release. I'd say it's either control problems or they are waiting for the online gaming infrastructure to be up and running before release.

Is Rayman worth getting or should I just get Wario Ware?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭Luluk

Rayman is definitely worth getting, as is WarioWare. I've had so much fun playng both those games! Seriously, if you can afford it buy both of these.

I wouldn't bother with Wii Play unless you have trouble buying a wiimote. Play is far too short.

Super Monkey Ball isn't great, imo. I haven't really played with it much so far, tbh, but I'll probably go back to it once I finish Zelda. I've found the controls very difficult and the awful music gave me a headache.

is marvel ultimate allience any good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭case_sensitive

I don't agree about WiiPlay, I honestly had brilliant fun with it, and it's only a fiver. The tank game alone is worth €15 easy, and the cow-racing is a deadly show off of the controller to the uninitiated.
    For the record I have:
    Wii Sports
    Zelda
    WiiPlay
Rayman (best of the bunch by a mile)

Also, I'm not a solo gamer, I haven't yet played this by myself (with the exception of 2 hours on Zelda, probably come back to it when the party game novelty wears off).

I also bought Mario Kart and Prince of Persia for the Gamecube, Castlevania and Golden Axe for the Virtual Console, all in all, I have a sweet setup.
When they remove that nav bar from Opera, I'll be in heaven.

Hmmm... thinkin of either Rayman or Wario

Can only afford one at the moment... which one should I get?

(p.s. looking for more of a multiplayer game...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Wario multiplayer is only unlocked when you finish single player (8 multiplayer games are then available).

You can tag team through the single player game though (each person take one game in turns). Great fun...

Rayman multiplayer games are only unlocked when you reach them in the single player game.

So you have to do some work in both to unlock the multiplayer goodness....

I'd pick Wario over Rayman, though... more polished, and more fun (and less "Loading..." screens).

Great.. was kinda leaning more towards Wario anyway, thanks.

Plus Wario is €45 (in Smyths w/Loyalty Card) vs. Rayman's €60 price tag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭sofireland

Madden has gotten some good reviews, might get that.
    At the mo i have

    Zelda
    Wii Play
    Wii Sports
    Wario

To be honest i'm not really digging Zelda, but i'll give it a go...

    Rayman looks hilarious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭case_sensitive

Rayman less polished than Wario??? Really?
I've only seen the ads for Wario admittedly, but it all looks very amateur, hand-drawn by a teenager stuff. I could easily be wrong, but Rayman is absolutely hilarious (the soccer game, the whack-a-mole games, any of the 15 or so shoot them IN THE FACE with a plunger games..
It's honestly one of the best set of games on any platform I've ever played, perfect for picking up for 20 mins and having a bash, or as we've played it, 8-10 people playing for upwards of 6 hours (drunk). Great for livening up a quiet party.
Shame you can't rent them before you have to spunk €60 (or €50 if you use vouchers). €53 on play.com, but you have to wait for them.

Has anyone played Monster 4x4 yet? I'd like to get a driving title and GT Pro looks sh1t!

If you buy a controller for 5 euro extra u can get one with play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

its 50euros (i think) for the game but it includes a wii-mote which is normally 45euros. SO if you were gonna get a 2nd wii-mote anyway its only 5euro more for the game with it.

I agree,I havnt played Wario but it does look really really tacky and cheaply done. From what I have seen it all looks like it has been drawn by kids. Rayman has some great mini games and then larger levels. I'm loving it.

    So far I have

    WiiSports
    Rayman
    Zelda
    Need for Speed Carbon
    Red Steel
    Call of Duty 3

Don't think Ill bother with Wario,it seems similar to Rayman and doesn't look as good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

Warioware has a completely different style of minigames (microgames) so the art style matches them completely...it looks absurd but that adds alot to the game.

So you've spent...what 600euro so far on the Wii+games? Nice. That's why I really want to research what games I'm getting. I won't pay 60euro for a piece of crap.

    So you would recommend Rayman?

My 'Wii things to get' list

    Zelda
    Rayman
    Extra wiimote (with Wii Play)
    Extra nunchuk
    SD memory card
    [more games]
    classic controller

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,255 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

Think I'll get WiiPLay so. I'm planning to get Wario next. I've a few mates coming round on Saturday for a bash and some beers before we go out. What'd be a good multiplayer game to get?

Ummm....Console was 259,NFS Carbon 59.99. CoD3,Zelda and Red Steel were all Christmas presents :D I got Rayman for nothing after trading in some games at xtra vision. so basically those are the only 2 things I have spent money on! :) I want to get a classic controller though and some VC games.

And ye,rayman is great fun, just a laugh. Especially when there are a few people around and you take turns or play multi player etc. Well worth getting.

    I have:
    Wii Console with sports
    extra Wiimote with Play
    extra nunchuck
    Rayman
    Redsteel

The game in Rayman where you drum with the wiimote and nunchuck is killin me as i have zero rythem/timimg other then that its pretty cool.

Redsteel is fun because of the controls but appart form that its average enough.

    Wii Sports (Natch)
    Wii Play
    Zelda
    Rayman
    WarioWare

And I would thoroughly recommend them all.

Monster 4x4 looks to be the same quality as GT Pro. Both look like they've been ported over from the Gameboy Advance to be honest. I was looking for a driving title also. Settled for the only proper one there, Need for speed carbon. Not really a racing sim like project gotham or gran turismo, but it's not bad. Be sure to go into the options for the controllers and find one you like. I like option 4.

I already have carbon for the 360. I thought 4x4 looked half decent from screenshots, but maybe they were deceptive. I know the wii is more about gameplay than cutting edge graphics, but GT Pro looks like something from 1995!

Monster 4x4 is a ported PS2 title, and GT Pro is a ported cell shaded GC title, which didn't even wow on the cube.

NFS is good, the controls take a bit of getting used to but you get the hang of it sooner rather than later. Its also a good laugh playing against a mate, but the career is a lot better.

CoD3 is...well its ok. The controls really annoyed me at first. They do take getting used to,and I mean a few hours of playing to get used to them! The controls are similar to Red Steel which other people have complained about the controls, but by the time I got RS I was already used to the controls from CoD3. THe only annoying thing about CoD is it is very hard to shoot enemies that are far away. You can look through the scope but it still doesn't help much, whereas in RS you can actually zoom in while shooting which is very handy. There are also a few times where you have to tackle Germans who come at you. And if you are an unfit lazy sod like me,it is very very hard! I was punching at the screen so hard I had to pause because I was out of breath!

So if you wanted a FPS Id go for Red Steel over Cod3,even if Cod looks visually better than RS.

It does. I'm amazed that it came from the cube. It really does look like a GBA game.
I thought the 4x4 thing looked good too, and was going to get it, but then looked at the back of the box again and had 2nd thoughts.

    for those of you yet to take the leap, or those with just the basics, this is what I'd buy, in order, were I to do it again;

    Wii and Wii Sports
    WiiPlay (giving you 2 controllers)
    Rayman
Component cable (if you have a compatible telly)
Mario Kart GC and two GC controllers (controversial!)
Prince of Persia SOT GC (if you bought the above, and play solo)
Zelda only if you play solo
    Nunchuck number 2
    Bomberman '93
Castlevania IV VC and 1 classic controller

Hold off on buying a second nunchuck, it's rarely that two player games need it, only one that comes to mind is the brilliant tank game in WiiPlay.
Also, don't overlook the GameCube games, they're often every bit as graphically impressive as 1st Gen Wii titles, and I picked up 6 for €60 2nd hand in Gamestop.
I ended up with a load of stuff I don't need (a 3rd Wiimote, 4 average GC games, 2 classic controllers where 1 is all I've ever used) and I don't even want to know what it cost.

Next on my shopping list is Mortal Kombat, and probably the next Mario. Auto-buys when they produce them will be Mario Kart and any Star Wars game involving a Lightsabre :-D
