    Is Banning(Slaughtering) Dogs the Answer?

Following the death of a British child who was kiled by a dog,
there have been calls for Irish dogs on the controled list, to be
banned -which effectively means a mass slaughter of dogs.

But is this the answer, or simply political opportunism married
    to knee-jerk thoughtless reaction?

BreakForNews.com speaks to Sara Gunther of East Galway
Animal Rescue ( http://www.egar.org ) about the issues and
more considered ways to safeguard children while ensuring
at the same time that dogs do not bear the brunt of our
    broken animal welfare system.

Amazing!!!! That was such a clear & well thought out interview! I hope it helps to make people realise what a problem we have in the county with dogs. & I really hope people realise that bull breeds are not evil nasty devil dogs! I am sick of the papers that have the pictures of savage pitbulls bareing their teeth! All dogs look evil if you take a photo when they are growling etc! My little jack russell cross has bigger teeth than my lab!

That's why in Germany some of the more undesirable "dog owners" have switched from keeping one (banned) bull breed type dog to terryfing (or should that be Terrierfying ?) their environement with a gaggle of four or five unsocialised, snappy JR Terriers.

Do they do anything about these people?

No ...but it's only a matter of time until some bright spark of politician will suggest banning JR Terriers (and their mixes) as well.
