Advice for Live Event

Playing Bolton UK Poker Tour Event tomorrow, I've only played a few live events and this is only my 2nd big one. I've actually had a good enough time of it the few times I've managed to play live, I think you have a lot more info to work with than online but nevertheless it's an irregular thing for me and some advice or tips I'm sure won't go amiss.

The few things that I'm aware of are
My mannerisms at the table, I basically try to react neutral, whether I'm playing a good hand or trying to pull off a bluff. I might try to sell a hand by doing Mike caro type stuff if I think I got the right opponent to buy it, or maybe reverse em ;)

I do study other opponents mannerisms.

Other than that I will be just looking to play good poker I suppose or as good as I can at least.

Any other advice from more experienced live tourney players welcome.

I'm not very experienced Live either, but one thing I would never do Live against good players is this. I'm sure they've seen this kind of thing so many times and have loads of experience with Internet players coming in trying to sell them some bag of sh1t.

The best piece of advice I ever got is this: When you're in a hand and you have acted and someone is trying to sweat you down or is making their decision, is to pick a spot on the table, put your head down and stare at it no matter what you have, the nuts or a stone cold bluff. And stare at the same spot no matter what you have, this way you'll know what you have to do and not be worrying about what you did or said last time you were bluffing, had a good hand etc. etc.

Just my 0.02c, I look forward to hearing from the Live brigade about this one.

I suppose your right, though I wasn't really referring to the better players here. Then again I suppose the bad ones are not going to notice what kind of mannerisms I'm at, that's the one thing I have noticed in live games, the bad players just seem to focus on their own play.

Well I'd say the majority of players will have pretty poor basic fundamentals, but I'd say one way they will have an edge over you is in the physical tells part of the game. I just try and negate this by *trying* (probably terribly) to do the exact same thing I do every hand. That way they are only left with Cards to outplay me with, which I'd say I'd have an edge there. Although I'd say as I get more into playing Live and increase my experience I'll probably bring in a little more chat, but from the point I look at my cards until I muck them, I try and say very little to anything. But that's just me, and I'm not someone to be listening to when it comes to how to play Live Tournaments.

EDIT: I forgot to also add, I'd say these bad players probably do focus only on their own CARDS but I'd say they are always trying to pick up on some imaginary tick or hand movement. As this is what Poker is all about isn't it!!!

luckylloyd's advice about the verbals is good. If you are new to live poker then say very little. Getting involved on the verbals can seriously put you off your game.
You'll find if you arent used to it the whole reverse pyscology can back figure badly.
If you get a bad beat and feel shaky leave the table to try and calm yourself. If you dont want to do this due to the fact that your BB is coming up etc. then ensure you only play premium hands until you lose the shakiness.
Trust your instincts and play POKER !!

not too generous imo - bozo here at 150/1 lol, though I note some of the irish players seem to have reasoanble odds.
