I'd be interested in hearing different opinions on this.

at the moment I'm just sticking with British style DPMs. As it's the easiest to get and possibly the cheapest. Plus obviously, I love the look of it. :D

Although, I'm becoming quite fond of German Flecktarn. Which is strange because I never really liked it.

Then there's Multicam which looks pretty amazing.

Id also be a big fan of the British DPM, all my gear is DPM bar my weapons.

i personally prefer the us woodland camo over the british 1. I think tiger stripes look aweseme aswell but apparantly arent that effective in most areas.
at the moment ive us woodland pants and plan to were a black sweater or something along with my watchcap for that "mercenary look"

Just reminded me of a guy who was up at Predator. Done out in blue SWAT type gear. In fairness, he'd put a bit of effort into it.

Not the best kind of gear to be wearing in woodlands though :D
I'm pretty sure he had to leave a game early and go get changed.

Seriously though, I need to actually buy some clothing for this...... Pair of combats and boots at least!

Theres a list of a good few patterns.

I like the Desert Storm Chocolate chip pattern and the digital patterns. Also like the Dark green DPM.

If it was of any use however id be in Urban Tiger stripe.

These ones being my fav of ALL,

    Pink

Love to see you wear that to a game.

ACTUALY, did you know that the best color found for night missions is actualy pink? i found a piece from a study while looking for luiminious camo patterns. something to do with the infa red spectrum and the moonlight or something.

    Well I'll be damned;

Actually, the US Airforce conducted extensive experiments for camouflage and dtermined that the best night camouflage color is pink!

Here's why: energy from the sun causes a molecule to vibrate at a frequency that we perceive as color. When the sun goes down, colors don't get dark, they fade to colorlessness. All that remains are the luminous colors at the edge of our ultraviolet visual perception. Pink appears to blend naturally into this "moonlight" effect by eliminating contrast and blending naturally into the background. Black actually stands out at night, particularly in the sky, on the ocean, or in the open. Total black only occurs where there is no light whatsoever, a rare occurance in nature and one where the color of your camo makes no difference at all because no one can see it anyway.

All the camo available these days is indeed in shades of gray, but not because its the best choice. It's because no hard male hard-charging full-spectrum warrior will ever run around in pink camo!

Go outside tonight and try it yourself.

will we be expecting to see ya showing up in some pink camo so oisin? :p

TOLD YA! Was a bit taken back when it said pink, but the idea in genral i got.
I was thinking more, sky blues not pink.

I actualy like the color of that blaze orange camo. couldnt bring myself to wear it but i love that color combo.

I really like that first shirt you linked all right. Something very cool about it. Pity about the price. I remember ehobby had knock off stuff but were shut down for a while till they removed it from their site.

Shame we didnt get some before that happened. If you come across anywhere else doing copies, make sure to inform me ;)

Yeah, the company that designed the multicam are serious about going after people who are making knockoffs. after all, they are selling the material without the need for a licence so id say it was a kick i the nuts when it was still copied.

I suppose, you can hardly blame them. It's an excellent pattern. Maybe there'd be less knock offs if they would release some cheaper stuff for people on a budget.

Have you seen all the different pictures of it used in totally different environments? Its really amazing how they got it to blend in with so many.

Yeah! some great pictures there. One with the guy standing next to the wall looks excellent.

How much do you reckon a proper loadout of it would cost you?

Trousers and shirt 200..then a decent tactical vest...some pouches...I'm sure the expense would be worth it. Would never need any more camo ever again.
(well, maybe when you wear out your multicams :D)

You thinking about heading to TA4?

Just tossing the idea about in my head at the moment. If it fell on the right weekend id only need 1 or maybe 2 days off work.

I'd say about 500 dollars would get you a good load-out.

Just found a pair of xxl pants on airsoft canada for $90.

@whupass, you DO know that its illegal to wear irish dpm outside of military duties even if your in the military???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

Interesting piece on the development of multicam including a prototype red "Scorpion" camo.

I've heard that before myself. Any reason? Or is it just so you're not confused with an on duty soldier? That's it isnt it? I just answered my own question.

I suppose, It could be likened to wearing a Garda uniform.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

Same idea i think. Not too sure but id say its because its a state somethingorother.

I have to go with some of the Russian patterns. My Bekas Tiger stripe arrived the other day, authentic stuff from a Russian factory :D It's colours are darker then U.S. Tiger, closer to French Lizard pattern (first ever Tiger camos)

I'll be getting a set of Russian Flora once Redsoldier can get more from Russia.

In fairness though, who outside the army is gonna care or notice that you have Irish DPM as apposed to any other camo pattern.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 960 ✭✭✭Harekin

But in fairness who is gonna call the Gardai to a couple of lads playing with airsoft guns?

Wearing full DPM is enough to freak out even the most normal of people.

yeah i know i got all the stuff and then read that on here, i sort of went "DARN something else to get locked in the cupboard" but i thought that since you can wear U.S. DPM here maybe it's just that they don't want you wearing the stuff in the country, so i got happy about this being in the north, i even had taken the cupboard key out!

would i be able to wear it in the north? technically out of the state

Also the N.I. Police would then see an Irish soldier crossing the border in full uniform, might look a bit dodgy...not great considering their guns are alot more..."effective" than ours!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

there not gonna notice/care in fairness. its not like you'll be in full uniform till your on site anyway?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 409 ✭✭nonex

I think he meant wearing the uniform of the country you are in at the time. Which makes sense.

Don't want to be confusing you for one of its servicemen. Although, I doubt its an enforced rule. As you can buy all the patterns in shops.

However, I don't know if the Irish gear is for sale to the public. Maybe that would make it a bit stricter over here?

    http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-39086.html

Thread about it here. Seems it's illegal to sell the stuff. However, I dont know if it's an enforced law as http://www.irishcombataccessories.com/ sell some Irish gear.

    such as;

    http://www.irishcombataccessories.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=254&osCsid=63672a338b64e903724fedf750f9dc23

DPM's aren't uniforms until you put real unit markings, rank insignia, etc. on them. Hunters have been legally wearing camo for years. Just keep your stuff clear of insignia or use made up ones from no real military and you're good to go ;)

By the way I'm not including Irish DPM in this. Best to stear clear of it to be safe. Other camos should be fine though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

Its illegal to wear the pattern of irish dpm with or without the markings as far as i know. i know that site has a cap with the pattern on it but i havnt found ANYTHING else with the irish pattern anywhere.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 960 ✭✭✭Harekin

Neither have I and Iv tried surplus shops too. Can I just point out that the Irish DPM looks rubbish anyways?! http://www2.ttcn.ne.jp/~camouflage/image/irish_army_current_issue_shirt.jpg

It actually looks worse in real life.
