Xbox Live Gold trial with new xbox 360?

Hey all,

I got a 360 for Christmas and there is supposed to be a Months free trial for Live Gold membership all you need to do is register your 360 and select Join Xbox Live when you turn on the machine.

I hadn't read the manual (who does) and had created an XBox Live account already on the Xbox.com site, because I didn't have the Wireless networking set up for the Xbox.

Is there any way to apply this 1 month free trial to the Account I set up on Xbox.com? I want to keep it all on the one account.

I've tried recovering the Gamertag, but that didn't work. It's just a silver account.

There's no code to enter for the free trial, either?

You (used) to get 4 free 1 month gold trials, pretty sure you still do on different gamertags, after the month it reverts to silver membership and has to be set up through the 360.....

I tired it on Tuesday by creating a new gamer tag and didn't manage to get a free month on this or my original one. Anyone know what exactly has to be done ?

when you create the new gamertag, select silver account even though it keeps offering gold, then at the end it will offer you you 1 month free gold membership.

Allowed to do it 4 times per console

And I don't think you can do it to an existing account

Yes this is how it works, I set up a new account for my son 3 days ago and boy does it ask you to take out the gold membership a lot, I also think that you have to do it from the Xbox and not on xbox.com

If you are recovering a gamertag or transferring an old gamertag you do not get the free 1 month trial.

Yeah you HAVE to do it from the Xbox console. I did it from the site and didn't get the gold trial, e-mailed xbl support and got told to phone them because I wanted to keep the tag I had created..didn't bother calling so maybe there's something they can do for you if you want to use the trial with your existing gamer tag.

Yeah. Thanks it worked.

- You need to set up a new Gamertag / Live ID from the console.
- Select Silver as your level
- At the end of the Wizard it reports that you are entitled to the following offer "1 month Live Gold Membership"

This kinda sucks, because I want to keep the Gamertag I had already got saved games, etc on the Xbox.

C'est la vie, eh.

I'll have to see if I can set up another one in a months time for another ID and get another free month...
