i have been offered a vista upgrade voucher from a newly purchased HP Laptop, my machine is a custom build. Can i use the upgrade if the original owner gets it and gives it to me or does it have to go on a specific PC.

I dont know but dell are currently doing a similar offer with some of their pc's . When Vista come you you get a free upgrade to Vista premium, you just have to pay for the P+P.

The upgrade will only work on the HP notebook or HP systems with the correct OEM serial keys I would imagine so there is very little chance it will work on your custom build.

If you want to do that you will need to get the retail upgrade version or wait till someone figures out how to use the OEM upgrades on non-OEM XP serial keys.
