Laptop DVD-rom drive dropping out

    Hi,

I just got a new latop from the Dell Outlet and lent it to my brother. He lifted it up on its side while forgetting the dvd-drive was slightly out. It then flew all the way out with a bang.....

I'm worried the dvd-rom may now be damaged. I wonder do other laptop users ever have this problem as it was forever happening to me with a previous laptop i.e forgetting the cd/dvd drive is not inserted all the way and then have it fly out when you move with the laptop.

I remember with my other laptop the drive seemed okay initially but gradually stopped reading cds and dvds...

Its still under warranty..do you think I should get it checked out? Although I have no idea what the process for this is as Dell didn't provide much information on getting back to them for repairs.

I'm really really annoyed with myself as I was determined to avoid any of the accidents I had with my old laptop :(

Did the whole drive fall out of the laptop, or did the tray just slide completely out? As long as he wasn't swinging off the drive it should be fine.

You wouldn't be able to send it in without there actually being something wrong though (unless you want to be charged). Is it working?
