I hope to get a new laptop over the coming weeks.

It will have media edition installed but want to change it to XP Pro.

    Should I experience any issues??

shouldnt be a problem, just run windows update and install all updates afterwards, dont forget to include optional and hardware updates

why do you want to pay over €140 to loose all the media center features

you should buy a pcmcia tv tuner instead http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=319847

As the others have said there is little reason to switch to XP Pro over XP MCE.

By the sounds of it if you have had some sort of hardware failure and wish to transfer the hard drive which has the MCE OS on it to another computer that is possible (though can be messy).

The main issue is the system died before removing the drivers for the IDE controller and graphics, audio sound etc.

If the broken motherboard & new motherboard you are using has the same type of IDE controller or similar enough one like an Intel SATA IDE/controller then you may be able to boot into safe mode but it is a longshot.

If it did work from there uninstall the IDE controller drivers from the device manager and remove the drivers for sound, network etc & reboot the machine to see if it will boot to the desktop.

If that doesn't work and you have the OS media the best thing to do is simply re-install XP MCE it should setup the existing OS on the new system for you.
