Some comments in the thread by Morlar re the actress portrait got me thinking.

Would you have makeup put on a model when you are doing a portrait session?? Or maybe I should ask when do you not put makeup on??

    Ta

I know a girl who does make up professionally ,think she charges about 60 quid or something. Most girls are chuffed when they get their make-up done ,I'm sure it shows in the photos aswell.

I think even if you want the most natural looking portrait you'd be looking at using some anti-shineyness products. Also very few girls are lucky enough to have no blemishes, no dark circles under their eyes, and eyelashes that show up well in a photo without the aid of mascara... at least that's what I tell myself ;)

It's easy to airbrush a person slightly to remove blemishes unless you're doing some *really* closeup work.

Mike, I'll go splits with you on a studio and model, I could use the experience myself.

    Hi.
In my opinion you definitely need make-up on the model - unless it is a child.
If you want to do 'pretty' pictures, and make the model look attractive, then make-up combined with photoshop are vital.

I'd love to say that the natural look is better, but, perhaps unfortunately, every professional photo in magazines/billboards etc has been edited, airbrushed, and the model has make-up everywhere. So, in a studio-setting, where you have a modeel, I believe make-up to be necessary.

It is the model's responsibility to look presentable.
However the make-up, if incorrectly applied/too much applied/whatever can sometimes ruin the picture.
