    Hi all,

looking for some advice if anybody can assist. I invested in a new tv today. A 42" Philips Plasma. The model is 42pf5331. It cost €1399. The price seems very good but i kind of rushed into my decision and Im slighly worried I could have bought a better tv for maybe a little extra. I've searched on a/v forums and philips tv's have been slated against different brands. Its HD ready, 2 HDMI connections etc. Its the picture quality people on forums seem to have an issue with in relation to philips plasma's. I can still return it at this stage. Any replies greatly appreciated.

My top three from a quality perspective as follows (both on anlogue and Digital cable and satellite):

    1. Panasoni Viera.

    2. Philips.

    3. LG.

.... The questioin is rather what you think of the picture quality...... avforums is a brilliant resource, but there tends to mega-threads devoted to different models. Inevitably, people can get defensive of their own purchases and can be groundlessly dismissive of other brands.

The "right" plasma tv is really a matter of your budget.......... Panasonic and Pioneer would be two well regarded brands for plasma screens but I don't think that €1399 (which currently seems to be about the entry level pricing for a few 42" flat panel tvs, plasma and LCD) will get you into either of those brands. Forums with very large enthusiast populations tend to identify capability and issues with models pretty quickly, but need to be read realistically - there isn't a display device yet made which can't be nit-picked, no matter what the budget.

In your position I'd be more inclined to think about whether I like the image on the Phillips before rushing to judgement. If you don't have it set up and can return it easily, then you can revise your decision if you feel you've bought without doing enough research, but be prepared to revise your budget if you want a different brand/model.

    Ritz.

Thanks folks for replies. I should have mentioned it my original post but my other concern was in relation to the reliability if philips in comparison to other brands. Any knowledge? I'll let you know what I decide to do with the screen. I haven't set it up yet cause the thing wouldn't fit in my car after I bought it! In it's box it's enormous and apparantley plasmas can't be laid down flat.

    Thanks again.

I personally don't like philips products but I find them to be very reliable.
