    Hi all

well where do they? specifically chinese, philipino and to a lesser extent malaysian, japanese, korean, vietnamese, thai etc

I mean i see them all the time working in shops, restaurants, bars but rarely see them out socialising. if you try to strike up a conversation in these places they would usually all act like i would grumpy from being wrecked and in no mood for chit chat.
A lot of the time id see asian couples going cinema but dats it! Are they all hibernating n sending every last cent back home (not begrudging that) or do they just socialise completely among themselves n dont bother with the irish pub scene which i think thay would be a great addition to plus they always seem to be great dancers but i suppose dat dont help me get in der as i dont/cant dance but hey its a nice to have a variety in the eye candy on display.....rambeling!!

You see a lot of chinese in amusement arcades, they love to gamble.Places like Dr Quirkey's in o'connel street tends to be full of them.Chinese arent big drinkers as a rule so you tend not to see them in pubs in any great numbers. They will tend to hang out in each other's houses, often cooking meals or watching DVDs of shows from home, teh game Mah Jong is also very popular particularly with the older set.As a bit of a generalisation, though, they will usually be working or sleeping and wouldnt have nearly as much free time as the irish would.

There are a few pubs that have nights specifically aimed at the Chinese community - There's one on George's Street if memory serves. They're usually early in the week as like most people working in the service industry - particularly in pubs - Monday nights are usually the best night for them to go out in terms of getting time off. In terms of going out though, like last poster said most seem to stay at home a lot and have their friends over for dinner etc. I lived with two Chinese people for a year and they rarely went to pubs etc.

Presumably there aren't many pubs in China, or at least not in the way that we have pubs here. For newly arrived Chinese people, i'm sure it's just something they don't see much point in, there are other ways to socialise.

A huge number of younger Asians go to Spirit regularly.

Last week when i was at Q bar, i spotted roughly about 10 Chinese nationals, mostly girls socialising and mixing with Irish lads.
A few Indians were there as well, first time i seen Indians in a nightclub.

Depends where they are from as to where they go. But in general chinese and vietnamese girls dont smoke or drink. Thai girls are westernised, as are japanese and koreans. Though once again, they drink nowhere near as much as Irish do.

You should realise there is a huge "good" girl/ "bad" girl culture in most of these countries. Bad girls being girls who hangout in bars looking only for westerners, and smoking and drinking while they wait. Its a mad stereotype. And hard to explain the thinking behind it.

Much more acceptable is the cafe culture. Try that instead if you want to meet nice asian girls.

fluffer is right about the cafe bar thing, thats why a lot of asians are more likely to go to places like samsara which serves food and has an asian/ middle eastern theme, as opposed to say... Copperface jacks. I doubt you'd find many Chinese there, let alone any other Asians.
But I'd say it's more down to not being to their taste or attitiude than being perceived as being "bad" or something.

If you go to any of the casninos or card rooms in Dublin you will see plenty of the Chinese down there. Very gambly lot.

I used to go to Fitzsimons in Temple Bar on a Monday night and it would be full to the brim with Asians.

Why not ask them when you see them working? I once saw a Chinese man in a Chinese restaurant. Maybe they hang out there?

Chances are if they don't drink they hang out at home. Lots of them hang out in the Knights, but that's not in Dublin so I don't expect you people to know it.

The Irish prefer the English style binge drinking pubs, like Copper Face Jacks. The Asians tend not to hang out in these places. I don't blame them either!

In Dublin, you'll find a lot of Chinese/asians in general in the Restaurants around Parnell st, they socialise in restaurants a lot and eat huge meals with loads of dishes and seem to put away plenty of beer/alcohol too. Saturday night in these places would probably be 60/70% asian

    Indian Indians!

Speaking of Asians, certainly is true they hang around in restaurants. anytime i go for a meal with the missus, all nationalities are evident :)

Singaporeans are extremely western. More so than us in fact. Being "western" has nothing to do with geography anymore. Its a certain lifestyle.

I think Ireland would greatly benefit from a larger number of native american indian immigrants :)

I was wondering that too. I was going to suggest that if it wasn't south asians, maybe they were in fancy dress?
