nice shots - though i think the top works better if you crop out the top third, to get a roughly square shot. the sky doesn't add to the photo.

I would tend to agree. It is still a lovely image though!

I tried a few things with the sky.. burn etc (I'm new to photoshop post processing) but when there is nothing there to burn it doesn't help! Will try a different crop tonight. Thanks for the comments.

Yeah, overcast skys are a killer. Particularly because they generally result in a fairly dark day, so if you're taking pictures of practically anything the sky gets even more blown out, losing whatever detail was there in the first place. I'd agree with that first comment, it was the first thing I though of when I saw the shot aswell. Otherwise, nice capture !

I thought the branches in the first pic looked good silhouetted against the sky and everyone is suggesting cropping them. Maybe you should try cropping just to remove the area of plain sky in the top right hand corner and compare this to the tighter crops suggested earlier.

    Nice pictures, water looks great.

I really like the 1st picture, personally I wouldn't change anything with it. A crop would cut out a good bit and the tree's don't take much from the picture, if anything I would have thought they add to it. The second picture isn't sharp enough imo.

    Nice shot :)
