my flatmate works for an independant small business (not naming names) whose boss has decided that he will pay my flatmate, and him only, the new minimum wage, despite the fact theres a few other people working there.
previous to this his boss has changed days off at a moments notice, only let him take half hour lunch breaks despite working an 8 1/2 hour shift "because its busy". he also pays him cash in hand and has never given him a payslip or proof of the fact hes working there or paying taxes, now all the other employess are pissed at my flatmate even though its not his fault they arent being paid the (legal) min wage, who should he report this to?

    Revenue Commisioners?
    Dept of Trade and Employment?

    Or both.

Lets face it - the one guy who's not going to be suspected for turning the boss in is the guy who's actually getting the wages!

    Turn the guy in!

Completly legal. Up to and including 10h shift your only legal right is for two 15 min breaks (paid) and a 30 min lunch break (unpaid).

Contact these guys. At a minimum, he has a legal right to a payslip and a contract.

I reckon the revenue would love to learn about the under-the-counter untaxed pay there.
